It just doesn't sound right to me either. I just can't tell exactly why.
What type of motor is in there?

Silver can. I've just taken the motor out and the pinion looked a bit wonky. Took it off and had to move it down a touch to get it to align on the shaft nicely. A fair bit quieter now.

I can't see the video since I am at work, but you are using the 0.6 pitch pinions for Tamiya, correct?

Yup just what came in the kit. Will replay the video in a minute and compare to now.

Yes much better but still sounds like a bag of nails.

I chamfered the edges of all my my M03 gears(contact points only/pinion included) with a dremel steel cutting bit, and I also made sure to remove all the burs inside the gearbox. It made alot less noise after that...

If you clean and find the glue gone, then it's definitely time.
Yup, I clean the tires after every run. I guess the glue lasted a couple of more runs than I thought it did, cause I ran the car for a couple of practice runs in Saskatoon before heading off to Edmonton.
Safe to assume you'll be at the WCICS race this weekend?

Is that normal? Sounds awful to me
Doesn't sound that bad, for a mini. I'd strongly suggest replacing the pinion with an aftermarket one, or a hardened Tamiya version. The stock ones go all shark toothed in short order.

Interesting!

I just drive my SabreFD Mini with its open m-chassis gears and all other m-chassis I drive afterwards sound quiet.

Sounds good. Make sure the set screw is metric/inch before you try tightening it down. For instance RobinsonRacing pinions are inch.

Gears do rattle a bit in the mini cars, and cutting off their contact edges at a 45 degree angle makes the rattling go away and frees up a few more watts......

Raced at my local track tonight. What a difference to the other one. Super tight and small. Car handled pretty well other than it is pretty twitchy. Going down the straight and all of a sudden it would be darting about with the slightest of inputs.
Adjusting the camber should help w/ keeping your car straight and less twitchy. when i first setup my car I began w/ 3 degree negative in rear and 2 degree pos in front. Then worked towards neutral camber until car started to handle poorly ...for me the ideal camber turned out to be:
1.5 negative rear and about .5 pos front running long wheelbase.

What wheelbase are you running? I found that short wheelbase was much twitchier than long wheelbase. (never tried medium).

As for the sound of your car, that seems about right to me. The mini in my experience doesn't have a smooth movement, its kind of "chunky" for lack of a better word. When I turn my TC its very smooth. The mini is not like that at all. As for noise, mine makes a decent amount when I free rev it slightly like you are. On pavement the noise seems much less noticeable ...but they all seem to make a distintive noise. I can tell a mini coming like you can tell a VW's engine.

..was looking at the "show me your wiring" threads and decided to clean up my Mini's wiring. I removed the deans plugs from my esc to battery. Took off the esc wires and replaced w/ wires that lead to battery posts. So removing the deans and balance wiring that I was hauling around brought me from 1318 down to 1299. So now I am in the nice position of being able to strategically place about 5grams of weight!
