You could always choose to change the 12AWG going from the batteries to the ESC with some 10AWG If you are worried that 12AWG can't handle the Amps from the LiPo's.
Not knowing your location I have just chosen to link to the 10AWG wire at the International warehouse from Hobbyking. However they do have the 10AWG wire in stock at the Western USA warehouse as well.

There's no reason to run 10awg wire to the esc at anytime. The batteries own "foil" connections are far less rated for amp draw than the 12 awg wire we provide. Trust me on this, there's no need for heavy 10awg wire in your 1/8 car.

I use a few 16V 4700uF power caps in some of my RC's.
You can make those your self or buy them premade.
I know the Spektrum power cap is 16V 4700uF as well. I have an original spektrum power cap in my DEX408 V1 and I have made one my self which I have put in my FTX Viper BL.
I have a project going on, getting a Hong Nor Nexx8 ready to run and I plan to use a Mamba Monster ESC in it and I have chosen to install a Castle Creations 10A BEC as I know how weak the BEC's in the Mambas are.
However the BEC in the Tekin ESC is not weak as the BEC in the Mamba ESC's. So if you don't use HV servos with your Tekin ESC there's no need for power caps or an external BEC.
If it's to ensure that the BEC in the ESC is never drained by high draw servos this works quite well for the Tekin RX8 Gen2 ESC. After I installed a power cap in my DEX408 V1 buggy which has an Xpert RC WR-6601HV steering servo in it I can't drain the ESC anymore so the receiver shuts down due to loss in power. It would do so before I installed the power cap if I turned the wheels very rapidly from side to side as the BEC in the ESC could not keep up with the servo.

As I understand it multiple smaller caps can provide lower equivalent series resistance. I like them because they are frequently easier to fit and securely mount than one big cap.
I'm interested in hearing what the Tekin gang has to say about them too.

There's no need to run external caps on the Rx8's battery line unless you're using an extreme setup out of the ordinary. The caps mounted to the battery line help with ripple current and voltage bounce. This can cause esc heat and damage. If you're using quality batteries, you should be fine. If you run a data log and view your battery voltage line(yellow) and it has a LOT of hash on it, your packs aren't good. It's as simple as that. If you're line is relatively "quiet" and has only small deviations, then your packs are good.
Good batteries can sustain voltage under load and will provide a much better environment for the esc to do its job.
If you're talking about BEC or "glitch buster" caps you really shouldn't need them on the Rx8 Gen2. If you're running a HV or high votlage servo, make sure you turn your BEC to 7.2v.

there rated to 10v so i didnt think it would run out of voltage with the rx8 set to 7.4... but it seems i did, so i threw the cap in...i run the receivers no issue with my nitros and direct lipo... i guess the corner cut was not enough reserve voltage to run signal and command, too much voltage drop?

Spektrum's "sport" receivers can also have this issue at times.
I'd suggest trying a real Futaba receiver to see if the issue gets resolved without caps.

Are you asking about power caps for connection to the ESC battery terminals? (Not to be confused with a glitch buster / stutter stopper / voltage protector cap connected to the receiver)

Caps shouldn't hurt anything being externally mounted in general. But understand the battery will need to keep the whole thing going. I'm personally against adding anything to my race cars I don't "need."

Hi Randy,
I'm wiring up a tekin t8 1900 system and everything soldered up just fine. Solder joints are shiny and smooth. When I went to connect the battery there was an arc. Because of this I did not fully connect my deans connectors. I then checked to make sure there were no solder bridges, verified a, b, and c terminals were connected from esc to motor correctly as well as the battery terminals. Next, with an ohm meter verified + and - weren't shorted. I did find terminals a, b and c were all connected internally it seems (measuring 0 ohms with respect to one another). Is that normal? I don't want to reconnect and cause damage.It's a gen2 1900kv combo bought new from amain last week I only ask since it may have sat for a while and I heard the rx8 may spark after long periods of time when left inactive. Like I said, when checking resistance from terminal a to b or c it measures 0 ohms. Resistance from positive to negative measures open.
