Started breaking in my first motor last night. Preheated to 220 degrees with a little primed fuel and she fired right up. Kept the motor between 210-230 for 2 tanks in my truggy. Will probably run a few more tanks on the bench before putting her on the ground for gentle accelerations. Both motors I purchased I had lapped. So, far it is making the break-in process much easier! If I didn't have National Guard military training the next 2 weekends, I would have these motor broken in and be at the track with them. Can't wait to run these motors at full speed. I take extra time to break motors in the right way. I have found by taking my time and energy to break them in nicely that the motors last longer and don't have issues with them.

How does the motor feel with the crank insert compared to a motor without the crank insert? And to clarify, the crank insert is not the silicone fill but an insert that is than drilled out?

I put an aluminum crank insert in Tim engine that reduces the Id. Tim can tell you how it feels. From what I remember he said he went from 7 minutes to 11 minutes runtime. I think part of that is he is running it leaner and hotter now also.

Motor has a Much Smoother Bottom End on it for my Driving Style with the Insert. I did go from 7 min to 11 Min of run time but am also running the Engine around 250-260. I did do some Test with Flywheels on the Engine with the Crank insert and the Alum Fly Wheel did have a bit more bottom end than the Steel. I Left the Steel one on there. It made the Buggy Super Smooth to drive and i don't have to worry about Blowing the tires off the thing any more with wheel spin. Now i did go from 4 Carbon Shoes to 2 Carbon 2 Alum to help with Forward Drive. All and All I'm Very happy with it. and Looking forward to PNB in April!

I seem to like the 3 shoes carbon for buggy with a medium weight clutch. But for truggy i use the 4 shoes and light weight clutches. Why you pick the 4 shoes for buggy was it a high grip track. Most track I run at seem to get dusty. But then again I'm not in the south where the prep tracks like weekly or it seem they do cause Everytime I see a video there like no dust. Out here it might be like every 2 or 3 months.

I was just curious about the crank insert. I got the R8 for buggy but it might be too much motor for some of the dusty tracks I ran at from time to time. My new local track is high bite so I know I can put the power down to the ground without too much trouble. I am sure with the right venturi insert, pipe, and clutch springs with heavy flywheel that I will be able to apply the power smoothly. If I can't tame the beast, I will throw it in my on road GT and get an a5 for buggy.

If it to dusty there are some thing you can do. Like a 3 shore with .9 springs. Pipe choices too the 2017 with the restricted with the .8 on the pipe will kill some bottom end also. I can say the fuel mod and the Insert job Rex did on my R8 works great on my d812 in lose dirt and fluff or dust. There are a couple of tracks that get like a completely dust storm when the races start. So i had good amount of testing it out and love the mods Rex Welch did also know as rwmods. Talk to him and see what he can do for ya. I also had a lutz before this which is like the same engine I can tell the difference easy in runtime and laptimes. Hopes this help you out some.

Im using the A52 .21 in my buggy XB9 with alpha 2090 pipe. I have 7mm ventury in carb and 7.5 in pipe, clutchs are the 3 shoes alpha with the moderate springs, I love the way it drives, It feel smooth but with power in bottom with a great top end, is excellent for the way I drive, great engine. About the run time, I have 9-10 minutes at 240 degrees.

Modified R8 in the Truggy is ready for the track. Motor was lapped and put 6 tanks thru it on the bench squeezing the throttle from time to time slowly to clear the carb. and 2 on the ground doing slow figure 8's. Will go to the track Wednesday for some practice time and final tune!

hello my engine is argus a5 it has only 5 litres or 1.5 gallon if you prefer this inludes the break in.but only 1 litre is on track all the rest was used in break in.i open the engine to clean it and the rear bearing is bad too loose .if i grap the flywhell i can move it right and left .the engine work great no flame out no overheating.i use hot fire (kyosho) 25% nitro fuel.my lhs told me the reason is the fuel so i order new bearing and a 25% meccafuel.what do you think about this failure of the rear bearing??
