And MyLaps then changed their product, MRT countered with a PT that now works on the new RC4 system, fair game. But I will ask again, do you blame MyLaps for doing what they did, from a business standpoint, and would you do the same?

That would be a smokin' deal.....for as long as they work. (little devils advocate there)
Now stop being a "Cherry" and give your opinion on this..

From a business perspective you charge as much as the market will bare, for PTs it's around $115 dollars currently.
From a "feel good" perspective you'd love to give them away for free.
MyLaps needs competition to drive the cost down, until that happens everyone will pay what they want us to pay. People talk a very good game about how it should be cheaper but nobody is willing to step up and make it happen.

I'll answer it for him.

Except MRT...
And they've been crucified for making a 'knock off' of the mylaps.

Here's a link to some alternative timing systems, at your next club race let everyone know you're switching to one of these. You lead the charge to get rid of the evil MyLaps. Let me know how that works out for you. http://www.amainhobbies.com/index.ph...Timing-Systems

MRT has a decoder? Of course they don't, they want to make money off MyLaps work. Ask MRT to make a decoder and transponder, report back here with their response.

Do futaba servos work with spektrum receivers?
Do SMC lipos work with protek chargers, or novak ESCs?
Do any of the knockoff HK equivalents work with everything else?
The only thing HK hasn't copied yet are transponders....

I'll call that deflection.

You're complaining about a product that costs the equivalent of a decent quality servo/speedo/battery/charger the only difference is your MyLaps PT will still work and you'll still use it in 5 years. You think you're still going to use the same servo/speedo/battery/charger in 5 years?
I'd love to see the cost of MyLaps PTs go down but the reality is you, I and everyone else isn't going to do what it takes to drive that cost down.

Doesn't matter the cost, doesn't matter if its a "monopoly". To argue the point of cost is completely retarded because everything else, except the vehicle(the highest cost) costs the same or more and profit margins are even higher.
Bottom line is if you want your laps counted, then you WILL buy one. If you cant handle it, then go make a system yourself...

^^^ Yup!
I cannot wait for someone to produce clones. I don't get why companies complain when someone makes a knockoff when it's their greed that drives the motivation for people to peddle cheaper alternatives.
Charge a fair price and leave little to no room for for anyone else to even think of investing money to develop their own. Furthermore, if they do not overcharge there's no reason for anyone to question such exorbitant sums for such simple products.

Who is stopping any company from making their own system??? You go on and on about how simple the technology is and shouldn't cost so much. Why exactly aren't you or someone else doing it cheaper then?

MRT's transponders were not a rip off from MyLaps. Their Transponders were engineered independent from AMB/MyLaps BUT they made sure they were compatible with AMB's systems.
This is no different than how companies figured out a way to create their own calling devices that use already existing phone lines and networks they had no hand in building. Vonage, MagicJack and the like function precisely in the same fashion MRT transponders work with AMB/MyLaps timing systems. Why is it that the world has embraced Companies like MagicJack and Vonage because they took the fight to the big bully and gave us more affordable options yet a company like MRT is vilified to such a degree?
Again, I recognize and respect the investment MyLaps' put into developing their systems, but as a consumer I'd prefer less expensive options. But knowing that MyLaps has the power to render clone units obsolete, I opted to go with a genuine product on all my cars and I'd be mighty upset if they discontinued support for the transponders I invested in. Quite reasonable if you ask me.
I wish MRT would devise their own system because competition would go a long way to driving costs down.
