I've driven the kyosho. It is a nice ride however. I don't like fat cars (associated). I like mine skinny

Hello Guys,

yesterday i was able to take my brand new 3.0E for a ride on our local track.
I was amlost as quick as i am with my current car (6 ECO) and i feel that
there is potential and more to come.

I changed the diff setup to 5k-10k-2k and im pretty satisfied with that.
Quite good acceleration with good on- and off-power steering.
I will try 7k in center diff to make it a bit calmer on acceleration.

The problem i have is the suspension. The car tends to become quite nervous
during the rougher track sections even on straits, and it gets a bit "bitchy" or
instable during landing after mid to big jumps.

As i understood the current kit comes more or less with a indoor type of setup regarding pistons and oils.
I took a look on the outdoor standard setup from Adam Drake posted on TLR HP.
He uses 8 hole 1,3 mm in the front and "splits" at the rear.
I ordered these pistons by the way.

#1 Do you guys think the new pistons + the oils will solve my problems mentioned above.

#2 How does a "split" piston look like ? is it with conical holes or different diameter on one piston ?

Thanks for your help

If you have not tried it, i would try the box stock setup with TLR oils not the kit oils as they are a bit off. If your going indoors put 0-0 blocks up front, if your going outdoors stick with what the build says to use. Also, if you are running a heavier car (with a standard 4s lipo os or 2-standard 2s batteries and a normal T8) try 40 shock oil in front and 37.5 oil in the rear as this was suggested by Ryan Dunford to me.

Thumbs up Use the Nitro setup Pistons

Tlr oils and the Nitro Pistons work great also 1' s in the front camber block. I run 555 in my difs

I have tried the 5 hole pistons and the nitro shock setup with the 8 hole pistons back to back and find that for the outdoor track I was at the 8 hole shock setup (Adam Drake's setup) worked best. The buggy handled the bumps better and jumped better. There seemed to be a little too much "pack" with the 5 hole pistons on the outdoor track I was at.

I even tried the silver rear spring vs. the green rear springs and definitely the green rear springs suit the ebuggy.

Myself and my teammate spent about five hours testing (a total of 10 track hours as we have identical cars). We tried 3,000 rear diff and tons of bar and ride height changes, as well as 0s and 1s inserts in front. Taking Ryans advice, we came back to the exact kit setup (with 5,000 rear), with the ONLY change being 0s in the front for a tighter indoor track. Car was MUCH better than anything we tried. Surely the kit setup is there for a reason. We found that a higher rear ride height provided more grip in the slick so we ended up at 26/28 ride height on a slick track, but started at 26/26 or 27/27 on the high-grip tacky track (still testing ride heights, but great thus far). MAKE SURE TO USE TLR OIL AND NOT KIT OIL--CRITICAL!!!

Just our two cents worth of input after a great deal of testing.

Thanks for the answers.

Concerning the differentials, I think i will keep the 5-7-2 setup this fits my driving style most. Im running a 4S 6500 mAh Tekin RX8 Gen2 and T8 1900 kv.
I think you would consider this as a heavy setup.

Unfortunately we don`t have any indoor tracks near by so its all about outdoor.

Yes in addition to the pistons recomended in Adam Drake`s standard
outdoor setup i ordered all TLR oils from 40WT to 30WT.

I still don`t have an idea what "splits" pistons are ?
I understand that there are tapered pistons and pistons
which have holes with different diameters but i never heard of "splits".

@XXXDAD: My english skills are limited what exactly is 1`s ?
Im reading it on the setup sheet too ? "1's up and 1's down front pivot"
Are we talking about the Kickup inserts ?

Thanks

Regards

You may want to consider going to a higher rear diff oil. Sometimes with such a light diff oil like 2k in an 8th scale, the rear end can unload in sweeping turns and cause very strange behavior.

Splits simply means that half the holes are one size and the other half are another size. It is a piston we sell.

Alright thanks to everybody. I will wait until the pistons arrive rebuild with TLR oil and may increase the rear diff back to 5k again.

If you used kit oil, that is certainly a big change right there. rebuild with tlr oils, change the diff oil, maybe to 3 at first and then try 5 as well...

Split = 4 holes are 1.2mm and the other 4 holes are 1.3mm

1's = yes, those are the kickup inserts.
