I run the hobby wing set up and I bounce back and forth between 15t and 16t pinion!

With a Pro4 4600, you should be running atleast a 16T or 17T pinion. I ran 16T on mine for a while and felt great. I now run a 4700 with 17T pinion

Any reason not to try the Mugen silver ("big bore") springs? My LHS stocks these, but hard to find a current spring chart on them. I can guesstimate the fronts as they are like the Teknos @ 1.5 x 70mm, but the rears are also 1.5 (vs 1.4) and look like 86mm. Thoughts?

I think the Mugen springs are going to be too long to get your ride height correct. Front & rear.
Here's a great chart

for anyone running a VTX8 and a Hobbywing 4000kv or 4700kv motor combo, can you take a look at the Viper thread?

I got an issue where it feels like on a throttle pull that is less than what the current speed is, it seems to just kind of coast, as if its not responding at that range. I am not sure if its the PWM that needs to be changed so I figured would ask. Outside of that, I love the feel, just need that fixed.

I wonder what other escs have for this as a constant versus what Viper uses as a setting?

My daughters truck is all up and running, tested it out in the street at 2am. SP GT2.0 Pro has some great power with the HW 4000Kv motor and runs cool.

Thanks for re-posting that, I couldn't find it.

I added it to the first post

The fronts are the same @ 70mm. The rears are 1mm longer than Tekno @ 86mm. Love that chart . I printed and laminated it for my tool box... Partly why I asked; see if it was worth adding the Mugens to it.

Yeah, your right. The 7 shocks are shorter than the 6 shocks? Thought the 6 springs were pretty long. I know the AE springs are really long.

I don't understand how you guys are running such high gearing with your trucks. I know all tracks are different but I run on a 4500sq foot track and I have the hobbywing sct pro with a tekin 4600. I was geared with a 16t pinion and I came off at 220 degrees. Dropped to a 13t and came off at 161.

It also depends on your driving and track size and conditions. If your hard or on the brakes a lot, that will create heat for both motor and esc.

I ran the SCTpro and 4600 for about 3months geared at 16T with no issues. Even this summer during 95* weather it never got hotter then 140*

Esc settings matter too. 4 poles dont like much timing at all. Ive got zero in mine. No boost or anything. Still screams with a 15t but i ordered a 16-17.

I can't either... VTX8 with HW 4700kv. With a 16t I temped the motor at 210° after 3 minutes. Dropped to 14t and I've been averaging 185'ish after 6mins. I was practicing today, did some setup changes (Durango rear springs) and truck felt great and I really started to push and then I'm pretty sure the VTX8 went into thermal shutdown...

Default Motor and Gearing replies

Thanks for the input.

Again last night, second race out, I was in second place in the main and was on pace to over take the 1st place guy (I kept catching him and then a tube....I know...I know) however after a hit it again my speedo wire became un-soldered. End of night but very encouraging.

So that's two tracks and both times I've really struggled to keep up down the straight. Initially I though it's just the Tekno being so heavy but if you guys are saying you're keeping up then I have to believe. I may gear up one to 16t and see how it works for me.

I plan to run at Sparks Park in Columbus for some "big" race they are having next weekend and then at the Loft the following weekend. The Loft is offering money pay-out so that should bring out a few folks.

Thanks again everyone.
