I run similar. Avid Batch 2 Yellow Front, Avid Batch 3 Yellow Rear 32.5/30 oil with shorty two pads rear.
Batch 1 front, batch 2 rear , venom shorty with tekin rs pro all the way in the back of batt tray. Back of batt just in front of where the triangles are.

What is the difference between all of the batches Avid makes?

Oh so they are trying to make it for you can fine tune the spring rate right?

Which one is the happy medium really? (like which do most people use?)

THe springs get produced in batches. They give you the actual rates for each batch.... Manufacturing tolerances always vary. This happens to every spring from every company. Avid goes the extra mile so that you know exactly what rate their stuff is.

Note that the spring rate information posted above are rear rates. These are the fronts.

Spring Rates (Batch3) and Specifications

  • White: Rate: 2.63lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 9.25 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm
  • Yellow: Rate: 2.95lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 8.50 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm
  • Red: Rate: 3.33lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 7.75 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm
  • Purple: Rate: 3.62lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 7.25 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm
Spring Rates (Batch2) and Specifications

  • White: Rate: 2.79lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 9.25 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm
  • Yellow: Rate: 3.23lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 8.50 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm
  • Red: Rate: 3.42lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 7.75 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm
  • Purple: Rate: 3.79lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 7.25 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm
Spring Rates (Batch1) and Specifications

  • White: Rate: 2.63lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 9.25 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm
  • Yellow: Rate: 3.06lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 8.50 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm
  • Red: Rate: 3.28lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 7.75 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm
  • Purple: Rate: 3.61lb | Wire: 1.17mm | Coil: 7.25 | Length: 44mm | ID: 16.25mm

The differences in rates between batches is merely due to manufacturing tolerances and the plain nature of the metal used.

The reason Avid keeps making different batches is so that the customer knows exactly what they are getting, instead of doing the same thing other companies do, and put a single number on 1000 springs that are within the given margin of error for that spring rate.

It definitely allows for finer tuning, but they're also making sure that what you get is what is stated on the label.

My current setup is Batch3 Yellow front/White rear, 32f/30r AE oil, 1.4x3 tapered down pistons f/r.

can you still buy batch 1 and 2 or are they phased out? i would assume 3 is the newest and no longer producing the earlier batches

I think they only sell them until they run out. I know my LHS has Batch 2 on the shelf and so does Amain but they will be phased out eventually.

I dont really feel the need for more springs with what is given in the avid kit I can outfit both my B4.2 and 44.2.

ran by 13.5 with esc in back of battery tray and RX on shelf. Felt soft, went up stiffer spring front and back, felt good. I like it.

I found it easier to put ESC in tray than on top of shelf for engine connection.

Thanks for posting the spring chart! Ive been out so long I had no idea what the kit springs were in the grand scheme of things. Finally get to try it on Saturday. sounds like if i am going to get anything i need a little stiffer in back and a little softer in front. I may be the last guy running a big battery in stock though so i will definitely be doing some experimenting.

I wish engines and esc's didn't need solder, takes 10-20 minutes but I hate doing it. Would change engines more. In fact I hate it so much, I have (3) b4.2's with different engines just so I don't have too. Need quick disconnect!!
