18t, no timing, adjust from there. Using an RX8/T8 1900 (and no current limit), I come off around 120-130 on the ESC with no fan, and 130-135 on the motor with no extra heat sync, pack after pack. I just put a couple holes in the obvious front facing spots on the body to push air in for cooling, and on the back side to let it out.

I love mine, it's a great motor. For $55 you can't beat it, same performance as the tekin stuff, and at a little over 1/3 the cost. It's super smooth and doesn't run hot. I've got plenty of power to keep up with the tekin boys @ my track and i barely use over 1/4 throttle for most of the track, and can clear any section with ease. So far i'm very pleased with it and would definitely buy it again. If you don't have the coin for a tekin, check out this motor!

Thanks for the info!

I'm debating on whether to run without the fan on my RX8. I see quite a lot of people doing this..... but I was replacing the fans left and right on my Ve8 and MBX6Te. At $20 a pair, it adds up fast. =/

probably depends on the driving style.
for me, 17t is better.
18t for me is 170+F for both ESC and Motor after 8mins.
17t for me is 130+F for ESC and 150F(8mins)-180F(12mins) on motor.

tried 80% current limit when using 18t pinion, motor was 150F, but ESC is still 170F.

Limitation is the tire at norcal, at least for now. don't think there's any obvious speed difference. (not until there's a flat hairpin before the main straight way).

I'm a less aggressive driver in outdoor offroad but I used to run mech brakes so it took a lot of heat off the motor and esc. Aren't you running without any body cutouts though?

I'm not an aggressive driver either, but my finger is either on throttle or braking, and I don't idle either when in the air. Guess that generated some heat as well.
I tend to keep my cars as light as possible, thus I have never experienced any temperature problem, hence I don't know how to drive "cool".
OR maybe I was lucky and got one of tekin's special motor.

I've got enough holes on the body, pretty much the level of cutting all vents, and 6 extra holes above the ESC.

*justpoet said esc fan doesn't hold on in 1/8 ebuggy, those hard landing will quickly destroy those fan blades. (blade will hit heat sink under hard landing and break itself, usually doesn't last a race day.)

I've been running a 18T at NorCal for the last 9 months without a problem. My esc is usually ~140 and the motor is usually ~160. Comparing the mA used during our last race I guess I am an aggressive driver.

The RX8 fans are fine as long as you mount the esc with zeal or something that has some cushion.

I just blew up my Trakstar 2100kv motor. Its about 12 races old and it blew the inner bearing and locked up destroying the rotor. Now I`m running a Hobbywing 2250kv

I am debating on buying a EB48 buggy. I have a Losi 2.0 e now which is Ok but I was looking for something with a little more aggressive handeling. I was at a race this last week end and there where two guys there with EB48's and they looked amazing on the track. Any body switch from a Losi with a comparsion?

I have only test driven other folks cars for the other brands, but here are my very brief recollections:
The Losi seemed a bit lethargic in the turning department, but jumped well. The AEs I've driven have all had a weird ability to turn instantly, but not always when you want them to (depends where you are in the acceleration timing around the corner), and jumped reasonably ok. But I can say I love both the aggressiveness and predictability of the EB48 (which I own). The EB48 is asking to be driven really hard in box setup, and most tend to tone it down in one way or another to get to the setup that works best for them. It also jumps REALLY well.

When going from inside great traction to outside with medium to lower traction would you change diff oils?

It depend on where you are at now. I'd start with 7/5/3 to start outdoor.

for me personally, considering either 7-5-2 or 5-5-2 for our outdoor conditions in both SCT and Buggy.

great thing though, its so easy to change the diffs in comparison to the nightmare the sc10 4x4 was I had.
