Masami's car is behind mine, where it normally is. You recognize that view, don't ya?

With the tapered pistons does the taper go up toward the shock cap or down toward the seals ? and what will the taper do to the handling ? Thnx

Depends on what you're looking to achieve.

The piston will travel faster on the tapered side. I run mine with the taper facing the seals. With that, I still have good pack on compression, but they rebound more quickly. What that translated into on the track (1.6 all the way around with 32.5/27.5) was VERY plush low speed dampening, and a very smooth feel.

Is anyone seeing the new towers on the shelf at their hobby store yet? Is there a way to easily see the difference between old and new while in the package?

I've actually seen several front towers snap (granted most were novice drivers). I added a .030 washer to the front tower rather than dremeling, to keep the spring adjusters from rubbing.

I have seen more rear towers snap here. I think the new rear towers are a softer plastic.

I dremeled mine and my front tower is now 9 months old. And it is holding fine. I have broken 3 rear towers. They ere dremeled, but the towers never actually broke where I dremeled. So doubtful it was the cause. These "updated" towers might be weaker. I am waiting for them to break before i replace.

I dremeled my .1 tower with no issues (since the week the big bores came out).

They seem to break below the notched out area so its not the reduced material. I replaced mine with the 4.1 tower and dremeled out the same amount and area as the 4.2 tower...no issues.
