Tamiya mini cooper
Honestly 1250 grams is too high! It should be 1200grams...

Has anyone else noticed how insanely soft the newer batches of S Grip radials are? Compared side by side with the ones I purchased just 5 months ago, they're like crawler tires. Actually they're softer than my crawler tires. I'm going to have to band these things and CA the bejesus out of the sidewalls. Some guys around here have been blowing through front sets in as little as 20 minutes...on carpet. Marketing ploy or quest for traction?
In all honesty being lighter does not always mean the car will be faster. Some cars actualy handle and corner being a little on the beefier side.
Most areas/tracks have a minimum weight limit for mini's, that must be adhered too. Being close to that limit is fine, however it is very easy to go under, especially if you run rubber on high abrasive carpet surfaces. i have been there and done that.
Your 1250gms is considerably lighter than our Aust rule of 1330gms every where we race.
Anyway each to there own.
Interesting conversations in here. Now I know why I tend to limit my posts on the this thread.
Happy racing.

Hey guys , some advice , rebuilt my M05 today for a big race next month
Fitted some adjustable upper arms , and want to know whatmyou set the camber at ??
Also the car has a tendancy to pull right when i pull full throttle from a standing start , all bearings are good and everything is free and well oiled , on the straight it goes straight
Any ideas ?? I am running a 3racing gear diff with 500,000 oil in there
Thanks Phil
Any ideas for set ups on M-grips ???

Jim,
Agree about the S grips. Glad I don't have to use them that often. I always found the M grips faster on carpet, until I went to 55mm diameter tyres. Way more corner speed, means faster lap times.

Do you compare then M-grips 60mm and 55mm, or a different 55mm tire?
60mm should have more grip than 55mm (contact surface), so I guess increased corner speed is due to the change in ride height?
Correct me if I´m wrong, I´m just thinking if a 60mm tire can reach the same corner speed again by making adjustments to the car? (lowering...)
Here in Europe in the Euro Cup everyone runs 60mm tire nowadays...

You can partially correct these deficiencies by running cyano on the inside of the sidewall before assembling the tire. Then you run cyano on the outside. I thought I posted this stuff several months ago. We picked up on it out here, just before the Nationals. I'm sure there are other remedies such as double stuffing inserts or using harder inserts. Those who remember what we used to do to the old type A will probably come up with other solutions. Unfortunately, for TCSers, those solutions are banned.
I'm hoping that Tamiya is correcting this situation with the new batch of #1016 premounts. They are still one of the Spec tires for TCS and everyone is anxiously awaiting there arrival. Right now, the premounts are back ordered at my usual suppliers and I've been told that a new batch is on their way.

Carpet is not my strongest surface, but some of your questions I may have a little feedback on. Usually, cars that pull one way or the other out of corners have a couple of things going on. You might try playing with the amount of toe out. Usually you need to add some. Usually the symptoms you describe are brought on by too stiff a front end and/or tweak. Try setting your ride height than adjusting for tweak. All Minis are tweaked, some worse than others. And yes, whack something hard and you might have to recheck it.
I'm pressed for time right now, but will post the procedure on tweak later, if anyone wants it.
As someone mentioned, it's best to let us know what sort of surface and whether the track is tight and technical or more open. Also mentioning whether your car is SWB, MWB, or LWB.

My mini also pulls to one side on the throttle using mwb. Also, what could be some reasons that some minis are faster than me on the straight when we're all using the same motor & esc combo?
Thanks

From what I know is that not all silver can motors that come with the kits are good. Some might be great others might be crap. Seen 2 guy's we race with at my track have motors that just couldn't get out of their own way down the stright.
were all using the same brushless motor and esc.

the car is a swb but will move to mwb for the race i think as my home track is tight and technical but the ther track where the race is is bigger open and flowing , and of coarse it is carpet ;-) at the moment here in NL there is snow on the ground outside so indoors at the moment
did look towards tweek , altered the shock preload and this helped emensly but i am interested in your Detweeking procedure

Are posted weights with body on or off ? We are getting 1240g with lipo and no body on M05. Also we run 17.5T with sensored ESC. With body 1340g.

New batteries are faster. Bearings with less or no oil are faster. Better traction compounds for better acceleration. 40 ~ 80 grams on front bumper for better corner entry and acceleration (depending on track condition).
Or aftermarket speed tuned gears.
Mine are with body. But with brushed system. I think brushless esc are 30grams heavier, and not sure on motor. If you are allowed to remove the plastic chassis handles, esc/receiver plastic holders, battery holders, etc... that will take off another 50 grams.
