Very few people have even the slightest clue what does into a new design like the EB48. Yes, the Tekno team can apply some of their learning from the EB48 to other platforms, but it isn't cookie cutter. To match the EB48 quality, Tekno would have to have multiple prototypes already produced today with testing well underway in order to deliver a SCT to the public before the end of 2013. Do they have this? Only a few would know, but my guess is that they aren't this far along yet in their new platform. To have a prototype, you first need a design..this is probably where they are now (possibly very early in the design).

You also must consider how much work is going into sustaining this brand new EB48 product line. They don't get to simply release the EB48 then move on; there's a considerable amount of work that goes into maintaining a product like this. Additionally, the company is probably in the "cost-reduction" phase of manufacturing the EB48 (typically when you release a new product, it costs you more to make it than it has to. Over time you learn/develop new parts/manufacturing methods which make the same parts for less) so this would take more of their resources away from developing a new product.

Just want to help you keep your expectations in check
While I do agree with everything you have said the EB48 was announced by Tekno in April of this year and we had our buggies by what , late July early August ?

That was probably the quickest release I have seen and they got it right the first time ! I think its very possible that a new SCT or Truggy is on its way , this year ? Probably not , but I would say not very far off .

Especially after the reception that the EB48 has gotten . I know I would ditch my SCTE in a heartbeat for a 4x4SCT based off the EB48 .....

A V4 tekno conversion for the scte would be nice in the mean time.

Only if they fix the wobbly diff issues. I'd like to see new diff cases with dual bearing for the outdrives.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't most people try to get more weight into the back of their SCTE's? A V4 kit would not accomplish that.

If they relocate the diff to the back it would like the v4 kyosho conversion.

But when they announced the EB48 in April, they already had some of the production parts being tested. Meaning they made prototypes, tested them, redesigned, tested more, decided it was good, made engineering drawings, sent them for quote, then entered into production. So all of this happened before April 2012. When does that mean they started designing?

Do we have any idea if they have even started designing their next "ground-up" platform?

Honestly, from design to production can't go faster than a year without an ridiculous level of risk, and even that's fast.

BTW, the first time I ever met Danny I had my B44 with me, and he made a comment along the lines of wanting to design a car for that class. I mentioned that the class was pretty dead, but he wasn't deterred. Revitalizing the 1/10 4wd buggy class would be a neat accomplishment for Tekno, and going from 1/8 buggy to 1/10 buggy would probably require half of the work that designing an SCT would. Not saying that's what they're doing, and I doubt it would be the most profitable direction, but it was mentioned.... /rumor-off

You should get out to SDRC every now and then to check out the stuff Tekno is testing

Not only is it an awesome facility, you might see something new

It does look awesome, and I'd like to get to another good track, but alas, tis an 8 hour drive. Someday, perhaps next year, I do plan to head down to visit around LA...so I'll definitely try to do so then.

So.... how about that eb48

Back on track.

Yesterday at the track I noticed the eb48 likes to go around corners on power. I would go way wide off power on 180s and on power it was perfect. Still running kit diff oils.

Does anyone build the diffs without the sun gear shims? Does it help free them up? Mine are still notchy.

Where you been Isaac? Yeah the shims are to be left out. It was great to see you out at SDRC last night. I'm still tryting to get used to driving this thing. My skill is definitely the limiting factor here. I still find myself turning into the pipes or oversteering corners. I suppose it would help if I raced more than once a month
