In any case, it is pretty horrible slop. I am still trying to fine someone with a drill press locally to try and drill and tap the hubs for the slop on the pin. But in no case is this fit very good. These hubs a poor quality. WC if your defense of the AE product is glue, drills and reworking of the hubs, then you sir are misguided. lol. Those hubs might be the worst thing AE ever made. I cant really think of anything worse. If someone like avid made replacement hubs that had better fit and grub screws they would sell a lot of them, lol.
I guess I don't get it... do you use AE CVAs? I do, and there's no play on either side.. Yes, if I disassemble the hexes and remove the CVA, the bearings will, with a gentle tap, both fall out. But once it's all put together, nothing. On the inside, the CVA boot has a thin washer between it and the inside bearing, there's a crush tube between the bearings, and on the outside, I use another thin shim outside the bearing, that the hex butts up against. There is no play.

Maybe I'm lucky, or maybe my bearings are a different size, but this problem has eluded me.

I am still waiting for avid to get more hexes in for that. Yes, I am using the CVA's . I tried swapping around my bearings and was the same. My bearing fall out with no help. I should make a video, lol. That seems the be the popular thing now because it very useful. I currently use 3 axle shims on each side with the spacer and pin.

I'm with you on this one, disassemble it all and the bearings are loose, when i reinstall it all with the hexs everything is tight,my problem is the hinge pin going through the arm on the hub,the hinge pin moves to much in the arm itself,i even tried a new set and the same deal, other then that my car is pretty tight for the most part

Yeah, I need to find someone to drill and tap mine for the pin issue. I have tried avid and the kit bearings and it is the same.

3?!?

Something is quite wrong. I wouldn't have near enough room for all those shims.

I meant 3 per side of the car. not 3 inside and 3 outside, lol. That would be odd.

If you can feel the difference between standard plastic and graphite arms then congratulations because you are in the upper percentile of people that can.

In all the testing that I have done going back and forth between arms, I was not able to conclusively show with lap times that one was better than the other, and I would paypal some $10 if they could show me evidence with laptimes running back and forth throughout the course of a day that one was better than the other.

And for the wheels? rubber outside and metal inside? I am looking to order some avid bearings and was looking for input.

I'm sure I have read some of the same books you have. I too believed what the books teach to be true with R/C cars but experience has taught me that how my toy cars react to changes don't always line up with what books tell me should happen. When I say the plastic rear arms will yield more rear traction than carbon rear arms and that carbon rear arms will be better when traction is high is based off experience and testing for quite a few years. It seems some of the pro r/c toy car racers I have hung out with seem to have come to the same conclusion. Just take a look at the setup sheets that get posted of the setups the pros ran at different tracks. They very depending on track conditions.
