Tekno RC EB48 Thread

I wasn't trying to compare performance, honestly, I think all the major e-buggys out there are good enuff to run at the track and be competitive.
with 2s packs, I can share them with 1/10 scale... (not sure why this is 'bad' to do .. never heard of that.. ) where as a single pack you can't. so that's the cost savings I was thinking of, not so much the cost of a single pack comparison, but the total amount you would need to race at the track. Currently I have 6 2s packs, and I have run them in my friends 1/10 scale cars no prob.
I never really considered that people 'forgetting' about charging their packs... most people seem pretty good about monitoring their chargers in case of a fire.
and Hobby King has locations in the USA to ship from, so shipping can be pretty fast.... people buy Hobby Wing esc's from China, like everything else we buy... Anyway, Im a regular at Amainhobbies.com, and I buy Tekin, which is USA made..
no, i didn't race NiMH batteries, I've been doing nitro for many years, and the Serpent was my first way BACK into electric... I always thought the older battery tech was too pricey for what u got, compared to nitro... in my opinion, for what I wanted from RC.
dont mean to rough too many feathers, I mean the car isnt even out yet.. what if it flops like the Facebook stock!! (j/k I dont think it will) Oh, Im sure I will see one at the track soon, and get to listen to someone bash me simply because they beat me... lol

There are two components here, balance and how tightly you can package all the components. They may be balanced (in two of three axis) two pack buggies, but there's no way they will be packaged as tightly.
Very respectful post...kudos for that.
I know we have done our own scale test and I would just say the numbers in the article don't reflect our findings. The Caster for example has great balance due to the fact that all the electronics are tucked in close as possible to centerline of the buggy. Is it perfect....no
It's mentioned that with the "EB48 it is possible to balance perfectly with right choice in motor and battery". That maybe true, but what if our motor and battery choice doesn't add up correctly? Do we change systems/lipos for sake of being perfect? The 6.25-8.4oz mentioned is not what we find doing our test.
Like you said though, it's not a "head to head" battle for obvious reasons and I agree with you on that. My only point to this post is not every "dual pack" car is created equal. There are better balanced dual pack cars just like there are better balanced single pack cars.
The EB48 looks to be a great single pack buggy. You guys do put out some great products.
They are all capable of winning and all deserve a look.....

It's really a mute point anyway. For all of us Local joe club racers we can't tell the difference anyway. Folks think they can, but reality is they can't.
Maybe in the hands of a pro level driver.
I just find some of the statements regarding dual packs design to be a stretch. Most of the statements are from guys that have never raced with one. There is no way to determine what is truly better. We all think what we own is the best...as it should be.
Enjoy the new buggy. I'm sure it will perform nicely

Whoa, missed a day, lots of stuff here.
I'm happy to see the different opinions being presented here in a respectful manner. So many threads degenerate into childish rants and I think there is a lot of good info here for everyone to digest. There are a lot of options in this class right now with more to come for sure.
Hopefully the discussion will continue in a few weeks at the ROAR nats and the 1/8th 'Worlds' at the Tiltyard. We're looking forward to meeting the other teams and exchanging ideas to keep the class growing.

It can be bad for the same reason it might be bad to charge a 2s pack without balancing. One cell may drop too low before lvc kicks in. In addition you can run into problems by using two packs that have been cycled differently. In other words, say you have used pack A 30 times, and pack B 10 times. Now when wired together as a 4s pack, they will discharge at different rates which can lead to problems. As mentioned earlier, guys who run 2x2s setups generally will keep the packs paired with each other to avoid issues and get the best performance.

Ive driven losi AE mugen electric conversions. Each with and without the OEM conversion and a tekno conversion. My buddy also let me drive his a serpent side by side pack layout.
A couple months ago Danny at Tekno let me drive the eb48 prototype. There is ABSOLUTELY a difference. The EB48 was the BEST thing I have ever driven on dirt. This may sound weird but it felt lighter and smaller that any other buggy I've driven. The direction changes are instantaneous and easily controllable and the corner speed was touring car like. Personally I have not enjoyed running eighth scale indoors. This car changed my mind. It wasn't until I drove Danny's car that I realized how much I was fighting the other cars.
This is coming from an Average Joe racer too.

I will try this car out. I have a serpent but i also have an open mind. The EB48 is layed out nice and i think it will perform really well. My Serpent runs extremely well too. It jumps like a dream and steers like an animal. It has a very balanced feel on the track and corrects very well in the air.
Realistically though, Is this car durable? How does the driveline hold up? Im not being sarcastic, im asking as i really want to know as some cars burn them up pretty quick. I like hassle free cars and durable cars. They must handle great too. Im not asking for too much now am i?
This is why i went with the Serpent, As of now, i havent seen anything that can stand up to it. Maybe this car can. I would like to see. Only way to find out is to get one.

I will also be buying an EB48 but not right away. I just picked up a DNX408 conversion and I'm going to run it like crazy for a little while before picking up a second batch EB48.

Teknorc...
u guys shoulda compared vs. the Serpent e-buggy... it is currently the best e-buggy (considering quality, fit n finish, performance, etc) available at this time
tho the diagonal numbers might be a larger difference, everyone in the Serpent e-buggy thread (also not NASA scientists ... ) has stated over and over, from real track experience, that the car is "very" planted and difficult to unsettle on the track. And no one, I mean no one, has broken anything on the damn car!!!
call it a hunch, nothing scientific, but I really don't think that the other manf, that u listed in a previous post, would be able to come up with numbers to make a case remotely close to the Serpent... and yeah, I would challenge those to do so. Competition breads better results, not more hatred.

They make a nice kit for sure but the last time I saw one running, it was being driven by a guy who was close to me in pace (3rd Q in the mixed nitro/E-buggy A-main) but he broke every run, until something broke that he couldn't replace. Part availability is tough with these too. Not to knock the design, one of the fastest nitro guys in my region runs them and his cars are soooo good. He rarely breaks.
I've had a great time with my V4 MBX6. Most of the advantages and easy part availability/cost (though it rarely breaks).

For the guys testing out there, how do you like running mechanical brakes in this buggy? Are there tracks were you like mechanical brakes over motor brakes? Will the mechanical brake setup be available with release of this buggy?
One of the reasons for staying away from mechanical brakes is the added weight. But with this buggy being lighter, it looks like we can still get a pretty well balanced buggy even with an extra servo in the rear.
Thanks! Can't wait to get this car on the track
