I am running a Tekin RX8 Gen 2 with A Tekin T8 2050 in My losi Eight E 3.0 Buggy. I am having issues with the motor temps after 10-15 mins of running. I am running the stock 43t spur gear and a 15 tooth pinion. I run a 4s Turnigy 5000 MaH battery.(50c) I run on an indoor clay track, I would say Medium in size. I have tried different pinion gears and cutting more cooling holes in the body. I have the ESC settings to default and turned all timing to 0. When I was done running 12 mins last night at practice, i couldn't even put my hand on the motor. I do not have a temp gun but when I polled the ESC data the temp was right at about 200 for the motor. I have only run this step about 5 times with all the same results. Everything was purchased brand new a month ago.
Any Ideas?

If your getting a fair amount of wheel spin, I would suggest lowering the current limiter some. Also if your using up most of the batteries voltage during your run you will generate more heat. Less voltage creates more inefficiency and more heat as a result.
Your gearing is fine so no need to mess with that.

Simple solution... We run 8 min mains almost everywhere. So limit your runs to 8 min. Also in an e buggy you should really only need a 1900kv. Any more than that without a big 1/8 scale outdoor track and your asking for temp issues. My .02...

Current limiter -65-80% tops
Brake - dial back until strong enough but no more.
Another thing I found to help was timing profile #2 (10* advance) and gear down 1 tooth. Lowers load off the bottom end, keeps top end on lower load. Your mileage may vary.
I was running 15 minute mains on 4500mah/4s.

I put that motor in because our outdoor track is really big. I only run indoors when the outdoor is closed. I just got the buggy running the past few weeks. We run 10 min mains in e buggy and when we run with the nitro guys, we do battery changes. So I need to control this temp issues before it gets hot outside.

i have same TLR 1/8th e-buggy, with 1900 tekin rx8 gen 2 ESC i showed at our local 1/10 size track with 15/43 and was told i'm over geared. i was told i need to drop to 12t pinion and it was recommended that i also go to the 45T spur which i did.

I started with a 13 tooth pinion, with the same heat problems. I have trie 13, 14, and currently have 15 with no changes in temp, Everything in the 200 degree range on the data log from esc. Motor too hot to touch.

I have run a 2050 and the 1900. The 1900 is so much more efficient, it isn't even funny. I doubt you will ever control the temps with the 2050, especially when running long mains with multiple batteries. The 1900 is the perfect motor for e-buggy and you won't be slow. The 2050 is overkill by a lot.
