Motor Temp Problems-Tekin

few questions that may help:
- Where are you topping out at down the longest straight?
- What is your driving style, especially when it comes to braking (hard throttle pulls then jamming the brakes a lot, etc?)
- Pictures of your pinion to spur mesh.
- Pictures of your soldering job on the ESC to motor wires.

I dont run losi so i cant speak for gearing but, some motors run cooler with just a hair of timing like 10 degrees, not saying it will for sure work with the T8 but could be something to try, and the brakes heat up 1/8th scale motors alot. i only use 50 percent brakes with my heavy mugen

What is your ESC temp, by LED's on ESC? Motor temp is bad for Brushless motor. Current, Boost, turbo & gearing may have to be considered. It up to driving habits and driving skills and track setups. You indoor track dirt or carpet?

If the motor was hot with the 13t going to a 14-15t is the wrong direction. That's putting more load on the motor which would increase temps. Try a smaller pinion and/or larger spur. Also, remove the pinion and make sure the drive train is free with no binding. Make sure mesh is correct and that any connectors or soldered connections are good.

For example, if I gear my car with the 13T pinion mentioned and I am pretty much at WOT around the track, that is bad for the motor and going to a larger pinion would be the correct way to go.
this is why I am curious where he is topping out towards the end of the longest straight. Using this method that the late Big Jim recommended to me, in general my gearing for 1/8 E Buggy is either spot on our about 1 tooth off of where I end up settling at.

I went from a 13t up to thrying a 14 and 15 t because I was running at very high rpms on the track. I did take the pinion off and the buggy rolls great! no binding. As far as the longest straight, We don't currently have a long straight. We have a large sweeping corner which I do not max out on. I went out and got a temp gun. I will be at the track thursday or friday, i will get some temps on motor after 10-12 mins or running.

in general, one other thing you can try is gearing your vehicle for a theorectical speed of 35 - 40mph. I usually start there when I have no info to go off of.
Then, adjust your gearing.

Assuming no binding as you said, have you checked your bearings in the motor?
something else, if the ESC is saying a motor internal temp of 200, then external I think would be less, maybe about 180?
another thing could be if you have any venting on your body.
Also, if you can answer the rest of the questions I posed that can help a lot.

You need to know the track size, not just "medium" but how long is the longest straight away. Your geared for a typical 1/8 sized outdoor track being 14/45 on the Losi. Indoors the 2050 is going to be a lot to handle and because of this you're going to be on the gas, on the brake, on the gas, etc. This creates heat.
What are the actual dimensions of the track?

I will check the dimensions of the track and see what I have.

BH1989 the best way to check your motor bearings is to remove them from the motor and spin them by them self , if they feel grity replace them I`m actually going to replace mine with ceramic bearings this weekend , it will also give me a chance to clean the can and armature as dirt gets in , also temp your esc just to make sure , good luck with your find on the over heating issue .
