New Spektrum Radio DX6R

Is it really worth the switch from my Dx4r pros?

The touch screen interface looks more gimmicky than anything. Unless I am wrong. Which I often am.

Not gimmicky, if you need to have the additional access you get with Android. Many esc apps are becoming available, that can be used via the 6R. Layout is easier for many to use and understand changes. More options to customize than any other transmitter. Plus its lighter than the other transmitters, and feels more balanced in your hand. If you have a 4R.. you aren't required to by all new receivers.

The radio is faster and feels more connected. It also offers more adjustability for ergonomics which make the radio more comfortable in your hands during the race. The android touch screen interface allow faster setup changes as well as more changes. the radio is easy to update as well so as they add new features it is easy to get them on your new radio.
Again you can see the Android interface interface as gimmicky if you want however there are upgrades over the 4R in all aspects of this radio. Then even though we all love the simplicity of the scroll wheel, once you start using the touch screen you will see the great advantages of going this way.

The software update is stable but I still feel if could be better. We were once told that Spectrum was listening but updates are really slow to come around and only a few of the suggestions here were ever implemented. Glad the scroll wheel can actually be used now.
While the radio is pretty good, there's a lot of annoyances that I have with it since it's a high-end radio. Stuff like this.
256 models are allowed, each model pairs with one receiver. Only 5 Drive Modes are allowed per model. On top of that, the most recent Drive Mode isn't even remembered. In the summer, I run on a turf track and need to remember to switch the drive mode each time I turn the radio on.
The devil is in the details. I still firmly believe Horizon needs more beta testers but they do not believe that to be the case. I accept the radio for what it is but all of the hopes for game changing ideas had are now gone. It's a fine radio but when it's time to upgrade, I'll probably be moving on to Sanwa.
I wouldn't recommend it. DX4R is just fine. I wouldn't call it gimmicky but I don't entirely think it's smooth sailing either.

The update has been very good. Not seeing issues from 9 months ago.

Any issues using the radio to use the hotwire app? And has anybody used it with the hotwire 3.0 bt interface and the gen 3 rx8? I'm waiting for mine to arrive.

the 3.0 with BLE connection will only work with later versions. Those of us that got a DX6R early didn't get BLE drivers so we can't use the Bluetooth connection Tekin offers.
