Reverse delay on brushless esc's

Does anyone know of of any brushless esc's that have an adjustable reverse delay or will go into reverse with a double tap on the trigger without having to wait for car to reach a complete stop first?

I'll be looking to run a sensored 8.5t

I brought my 1st brushless setup, a speed passion combo and reverse delay is ridiculous aswell as lipo cut off will not work. Have tried all types of firmwares and settings.

The Tekin RS I used to have had delayed reverse. I'm sure the new Gen 2 RS also has it.

Was it a "double tap" to get into reverse and it also had a delay?

Basically i've only just dug out my old losi xx-t thats been in storage 15 years. I was using a novak rooster back in the day. This would brake for 3 seconds and then kick into reverse, no waiting for it to reach a complete stop first.

I want a esc brushless setup that has similar brake/reverse characteristics as the old rooster

It was a double tap I believe. It has been over a year since I had it though, so hopefully somebody else can chime in.

Tekin is a delay only. Not a double tap. I think it's the Orion that is double tap.

Do you recall how long the delay is?

I think on Tekin the delay is 3 seconds, or you can turn the delay off.

The delay is a full one second in neutral before reverse will engage. If you try to engage before the one second is complete it will restart that timer. It can feel like an eternity, but remember the ESC has to see the neutral signal which can take a brief moment after you have let go of the trigger.

Thats very interesting about the timer restarting. That maybe my problem with my speed passion esc. Do you know of any esc's that have no delay?

I 95% the Castle MMP is a double-tap only.

The orion and most other china hobby wing clones are very iffy on the reverse, The 2 orions and 1 hobby king clone, even my LRP esc, have been poor to reverse at best.

The delay can be turned off on Orion pro's but that is "crawler" mode so there is no brake. With the Orion if the car is stopped there is no delay when you move the trigger to reverse. However if it's moving forward then it brakes until it is stopped then goes into reverse.
That delay is standard to help prevent people from ruining their drivetrain. I find it irratating sometimes when I can't get it when I want it or it comes on when I don't want. But that is just learning how to work it correctly and using some patience.

Thanks for that. I will look into orion's. I don't mind it coming to a complete stop first, I just don't want to have the car sitting there for 3 seconds in "neutral" before it finally decides its ok to go reverse

the Viper vtx10 series has a little bit of a lag, but runs the car in reverse very nicely.

ThePanda 05-08-2014 05:55 PM

why would you want it to go into reverse before it stopped??! that is a good way to put a lot of strain on the motor and to start stripping gears.
