Is your Hotwire plugged directly into a USB port? Or is it in a hub?

Directly into the motherboard USB ports. I'm about to try a shorter USB cable.

Let's test something easy enough:

When the Hotwire is plugged into the PC, does the PC demonstrate the typical "bing" sound?

My first thought which is the MOST common is the USB cable isn't fully seated into the Hotwire housing itself. It will still light up and LED but it will not work nor be seen by the PC. Please verify. It's a tight fit for a reason.

Bootbox, remove the program, reboot your computer and start over...

Just did this, same issue. Thank you though, it was worth a shot.

It makes the noise and the cable clicks into place as well.

Ok, good. When you plug in JUST the Hotwire, launch the software and hit "help" button was version is shown?

The message about 'Too many USB devices plugged in' takes over and won't let me press any buttons on the Hotwire software. After 2 or 3 seconds the message disappears and the app automatically closes.

I sent an email with the specs and some screenshots.

I did manage to get to the help button just before the error pops up, I have Hotwire version 12.40.3

Just to update the thread on where my Hotwire issue stands, the internet says the 'Too many USB devices plugged in' error message can sometime be from not enough voltage available for the USB port if you have a ton of things plugged in. After unplugging all my USB cables and the error still popping up, I started to wonder if it was because I only have USB 3.0/3.1 slots, but then I hooked up the front 2.0 ports and I get the same error.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm not getting sufficient voltage out of my power supply on the 5v rail. I am pulling a ton of power for watercooling etc, it may just be time for a new power supply.

Anyway, I installed Hotwire on my work laptop and everything works fine on there so I'll just use it like that.

Sounds like its time for a bigger power supply!
Are your pumps on the 5v rail? I would have thought 12v

Yeah good call, it's the 12v rail. It's a pretty old PS, could just be getting tired in general I guess.

does anyone have more than one hotwire and if so do you use the same computer to connect to it? I recently got another hotwire and i can’t get it to install the usb driver and connect to the hotwire app. my other hotwire connects with no issue.

rock-rod 01-11-2018 08:07 PM

Figured it out. I was making it harder than needed. I plugged in the Hotwire to the esc and then to the computer and it connected with no issue.

It should be an HID device, and work without issue if you have another one working now.

What Hotwire software level are you at?

To check, plug in ONLY a Hotwire, no esc, launch the software, hit the "help" button.

rock-rod 01-12-2018 02:17 PM

This hot wire was new in package and was showing it had already been updated to the most current version. I was trying to follow the steps to do the update but apparently it didn't need it. All is well - both devices work perfectly using the same lap top.

I have a standard hotwire no Bluetooth. I read somewhere you have to update the firmware on the hotwire to use with a RS Pro 1s. Bear in mind I have not got home to actually check it the way it is.
