Thanks for the info

Guys thanks for all the info in this thread! it has been very helpful. but I do have one Qu. if I have a program card do I need the Bluetooth to make changes to the Toro 150a esc. just want to know before I buy one

matt_is_superco 02-19-2014 07:26 AM

If you have a Toro 150a esc and a SkyRC smart program box, you can make changes with the program box. If you want to make changes via bluetooth with your smart phone, then you will need the bluetooth module. You can only have one plugged into the esc at a time.

NOTE: On page 20 of the new 2014 SkyRC Product Catalog, they show a new product. SK-60075 WiFi Module. This appears to act just like the bluetooth module, except it sends out a wifi signal rather than a blueooth signal. Should give greater range.

bigco66 02-19-2014 01:27 PM

So would you go with the Bluetooth or the card in your opinion?
Thanks again for info

matt_is_superco 02-19-2014 01:59 PM

Personally, I like having the bluetooth module always plugged into the esc and mounted on the chassis. The smart program card has a few extra features you might find handy (cell voltage checker, KV/RPM mode, links esc to PC).

If you can afford it and have a smart phone, get the ESC/card combo (http://www.rcmart.com/toro-ts150a-br...m-p-37241.html) and additionally order the bluetooth module (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SKYRC-RC-...-/201001636104)

I would advise getting the blue tooth module over the programming card for all of the Toro Pro Comp esc's. I agree that once you use the blue tooth programming module you will never use the programming card again, it just does not pack the tuning features. Also I would say get the pc link so that you can do firmware updates.

I hope to get info and my pricing for the new products this week. Unfortunately not all the products listed in the catalog are avaliable for purchase, theu are reserved for companies I will not name to brand their own name on.

Also for better directions on all the tuning features download the hobbywing v3.1 manual, it gives a much better explanation. Skyrc/Toro dropped the ball on this one and its on my list to see if they can offer better direction and explanations on the features.

matt_is_superco 02-19-2014 02:19 PM

I actually just traded my Toro 150A gen2 esc and bluetooth module last weekend... but to a close friend who will use it more than I did. I plan to get a few more for other rc's in the near future. Adjusting the ESC with my smart phone was super cool.

I still have 2 Trackstar 150A gen2 esc's and plan to run those in my 1/8 truggies. One is currently in my Turnigy 5000 vehicle... Hopefully I can get a 2S speed run on video soon and submitted before they end the contest.

can anyone test BEC voltage and amp's on both toro and trackstar?

if there really the same ESC why the different BEC specs?

Please tell us Rob S, how would you go about testing the stated BEC specs against the actual BEC voltage and amp results? I'm guessing it will involve a volt meter, but I'm not sure what ALL THE SURROUNDING CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD BE. To answer your question I'm sure it would require more than your typical hobbyist can perform. Plus they would need to own both Trackstar and Toro esc's for testing. Even I don't own both at this moment.

Other people, feel free to chime in with simple reproducable instructions several of us can perform to answer Rob S's question.

Rob S - if nobody chimes in... Sorry dude. Stated Specs would be assumed correct unless proven otherwise.

Well, I actually looked at the BEC specs on both just now. They are identical.

Trackstar: BEC Output: 6V @ 5A
Toro: BEC Output 6V@5A

SkyRc 150a with bluetooth module issue

I have a SkyRc Toro 150a ESC and just received the bluetooth module for it. Before I was able to use the program box to make changes and not have to power off my rc and power it back on to test the new settings. Ever since I tried the bluetooth module, now every time I make a setting change I have to power off the ESC and turn it on again to get moving. I believe there a firmware issue with the bluetooth module that has not been upgraded to prevent this from happening. Did anyone else ever experience this issue? Now every time I make setting changes with any device (Program box, Bluetooth module or Skylink pc connection) I need to turn off power to ESC and turn it back on to get the rc rolling again. What a PITA!!!!!!!!!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!!!!

That does not sound like what I have experienced. Something's not right. I need to get my hands on another Toro 150a gen2 esc before I can walk through the steps of what you "should" encounter. Maybe someone else can step in?

Ok for me when using the bluetooth module for every change I make I hit the apply button in the top right corner. Your esc will make two beeps letting you know the change is confirmed. I hope this helps.

When I make any changes thru Program box, Bluetooth module or Skylink I receive 2 green light flashes and no audible beeps and then a steady red light instead of the flashing red light after a change has been sent and applied. Then there will be no foward or reverse just steering until I power off ESC and turn back on and all is well afterwards. The thing is I had no issues like this with just the Program box or Skylink. The minute I plugged in the Bluetooth module everything went down the drain. Not sure why the Bluetooth madule would cause this sudden glitch and thats why I beleive it may be a firmware issue with the bluetooth module. The funny thing is on a related note about SkyRc, I have there Rs16 charger and experienced a similiar issue where I coonected to there computer based charging program and now I can not use the physical control on the charger any longer it has to be done thru the Pc to make setting changes and apply. Old firmware and new firmware just dont vibe well I think. Appreciate the feedback. Thanks!!

Ok I think you are possibly right on the firmware issue. I'm going to forward your issues on to skyrc and getting their technical take on this. As soon as I get a response I will post back ASAP. I just came online as the US distributor for skyrc and I'm trying to get everything in place as a fast as possible.

Can you tell me when and where you purchased your esc, programming box, pc link and charger from.

Thanks again for the feedback. The ESC was purchased thru seller on Fleebay (yallstore) USA, Program box and 2x Rs16 charger Fleebay (emilyandlily) USA, Bluetooth fleebay-AU (rc-super). The thing is I have been a long time supporter of SkyRc products. Hope you can get thru to them on supporting there product and providing more frequent firmware updates and maybe get this resolved. Thanks again and best of luck!!!!

Thank you and I should get a answer soon. I am also going to look into the companies you have listed. Lot of the USA based companies are not licensed dealers with Skyrc. Skyrc does not directly honor any warranties on products sold by those companies. The warranty claims will have to be handled by from the company the products were purchased from.

Right now I can say hobbyparts, nitrorcx are recognized dealers. Very soon Discount RC store and TSR products will be carrying the TS series esc's and Ares Pro motors.

I am also glad to hear your a long time supporter on the SkyRC brand. I will be working on bringing as many of the products here to the US, providing support of those products and finding reputable dealers to carry the products.

Any word yet? Would like to know there response to the ESC issue with Bluetooth wiping out the settings to except changes and continue to run without having to turn the ESC off and back on again to get it running. Work fine before with the program box. Know there are caught in the limbo as well. Thanks!!

2 weeks and no response. Thanks anyway Beaker151!!!!!!!!!

Beaker151 03-28-2014 08:39 AM

I understand your frustration as I can not get skyrc to respond to your issue. I keep getting the engineers are looking into it.

Beaker151 03-28-2014 10:40 AM

I will be talking to Skyrc tonight and hopefully I can get a possible resolution to your issue. I did notice that the firmware file has been revised as of 3/25/14. I do not know what revisions were made but you might want to try reloading the firmware again.

My frustration is with SkyRc. I just can not believe they would not want to resolve these issues ASAP and take a chance at tarnishing there name and products. I know many Rc Hobbyist who use they product and will be very disappointing to hear the non support SkyRc has provided.

On another note: Where did you see the firmware for 3/25/14 listed? I am having an issue locating it. Would appreciate a link or guide in the right direction. Thanks again for you time Beaker151!!

Never mind found the revision. Tryed it for the Toro 150esc and no firmware update available. It was worth a shot. Thanks again!!

I would start out by having the instructions in front of you (http://www.skyrc.com/index.php?route...product_id=178)

a) recalibrate the esc to the radio
b) check LVC - auto is 3.2V/cell which should be fine
c) make sure lipo is fully balance charged and not puffed/worn out

hi there,

I just have got myself a New Toro 150a S8, which looks a bit different, the software seems to be the same as the TS.
So far, I had two problems: I smoked the programming box (yep!), and I have problems to calibrate the transmitter. until now, I never had problems calibrating with different esc.
After downloading the software, it took a while until I got it running on the pc. Then, only a few features are shown on the software.

I was hoping tho get that solved with a new firmware, but with a smoked programming card...

One point I don't understand: why is there no setting for timing?

Nevertheless, here are some closer pics, overall-quality looks very good. I had a short run in my truggy, with a outrunner motor, very very smooth, great.

here some more pics. What I really like is the big capacatitor bank, something I have always added to my recent ESCs.
it is also pretty small, and the aluminium-housing looks good and will be good for cooling.

I'm pretty sure that is not compatible with the program card we use on the TS 150a... Our smart program box is only compatible with the current generation of the TS line of Toro esc's. I have only ever seen that esc you have for sale on eBay from a sketchy looking seller. Where did you purchase it? I'm almost positive the only program card compatible with that esc is going to be this one:
http://www.skyrc.com/index.php?route...&product_id=51

Beaker151 04-11-2014 02:22 PM

Matt you are correct the TS lcd programming is for the TS line of esc's only.

florianz 04-12-2014 02:30 AM

I progammed the esc with the prog box, before it smoked, it worked.
I hope I get a replacement.
As far as I can see, the software and the manual is the same as the ts.
I have ordered the bluetooth dongle and the PC interface as well.

the normal toro program box does not work.

funny thing is I haven't found much about the S8 in the internet.
ebay seller is goodgamex

Can anybody read the FETs?
Why is there no normal timing as with other ESCs, or am I wrong?
many thanks
florian

matt_is_superco 04-12-2014 03:30 PM

Florian - I really don't think your esc is in the same family as the SkyRC TS ESC's. I seriously doubt the Bluetooth module is going to work. Sorry bud. There doesn't seem to be any online support for your esc.

DRTMI 04-18-2014 10:26 PM

Program box software is updated to 1.07 and it works. I just used it on my v2 TS 150a. Go get it. BTW, this is for those of us that are using the TrackStar TS 150a v2 ESC's

Beaker151 04-19-2014 01:03 PM

I want to know if anyone has run a tenshock 812 motor with the TS150. I know the TS150 works with sensored and unsensored 4 pole motors just fine and it even runs 6 pole unsensored fine, but the tenshock 812 sensored 6 pole just blew out 2 TS150 sensor ports. I'm going to have skyrc and tenshock review this issue I'm just looking to see if anyone else has tried this motor.

One download says it's for Windows 7 and the other Windows 8. FYI, I tried the Windows 7 software and it appears to work with Windows XP as well. Just wanted to let everyone know.

florianz 04-22-2014 09:20 AM

Short feedback about some progress:
I was able to run the programming software more or less, sometimes it shows a bit of the functions, sometimes nothing at all, sometimes some funny things... :flaming:
-pretty frustrated, I ordert the usb thingie and the bluetooth link.
-could not get the usb link working after some tries
-but surprise: the Bluetooth link worked after I linked it with my Huawei Ascent mobile phone, the app works great. :ha:
Hurray, I changed some settings, and it seems it worked! Curious if it still works next weekend...

In an other forum I have read that the Gen II ESC sometimes has problems to get connected.

Did not update the ESC, as I am afraid that I get new problems...:sneaky:

Man, some years ago we didn't even have some proportional breaks for 1:8, and now I can change settings with my mobile phone. crazy.

I got a replacement for the Programming Box, which seems to work. Did not try to connect to my olt t41 Thinkpad yet.

Still I have one question: why is there no setting for the timing? I am into 1:8 brushless for some years now, and timing always has been an important feature. the normal 150a esc has of course timing settings. Thanks for some input.

I just got an 8S too. Skyrc have no product page or information on this ESC on their web pages, but they show a picture of it in the heading when you click the "Speed controller" menu item... strange...

Havent connected it yet, but will keep you updated when I do :)

Turnigy Trackstar 10th Scale Sensored Brushless Car ESC 120A 10th Scale

Turnigy Trackstar 10th Scale Sensored Brushless Car ESC 120A 10th Scale Sensored Brushless car ESC. I hear a lot about this off-road has anyone used this one yet on-road to give input. I have been told that on this ESC. You can install the HOBBYWING software and it operates like an ORION R10 120a. With the same braking force in blinky mode. You have to use the HOBBYWING box is all. I guess they use the HOBBYWING box because it has a lot more adjustments to it. If anyone can add or not to this.

On the Toro competition esc's it looks like you will have to buy a module for each of the three ways to program the esc's. The programming box, the Bluetooth Module and the skylink PC interface module.

Programming Box
SK-300046-01

Bluetooth Module
SK-600058-01

Skylink Computer interface module
SK-600013-02

I will try to get a representative from SkyRC to participate here on rctech to help all of get us to speed on their products and any questions that we have.

Until then feel free to shoot me a pm on any question that you may have and I will do all that I can. If Skyrc does agree to have a rep or reps participate here on RCTech I will start up a new thread.

Does the Skylink Computer interface module (SK-600013-02) work on the Trackstar 150A GenII esc to be able to program the esc via computer?

Not compatible. SkyRC/Toro only works with SkyRC/Toro. TrackStar only works with TrackStar. They are not interchangable. You will need to use the TrackStar smart programming box to interface with a PC.

Darrin70 06-20-2014 12:09 AM

Anyone know when they will have a firmware update for the TS120sc and TS150a? Installed a TS120Sc and it has very weak breaks.. You can't even re flash the firmware...
