Guess it makes sense. Thanks for putting it like that.

I only have two cars but I have multiple models set for each car and I've set the radio up for in terms of car feel/track conditions. I usually label them something like 2WD Slick, 2WD Clay, 4WD Clay, 4WD Slick, loamy whatever words work for you, etc. It seems a lot of guys don't adjust their radios much so this may not be very helpful for them but I always tell people they should try it. A little Expo on the radio is much easier to mess around with rather than adjusting the car suspension/gearing/ESC settings. That being said I also use my ESC settings often to adjust my power band for the track. I find steering expo to be very helpful when you just wanna dial a touch of that tweakyness out right before your heat starts.

Also, I have been running Low Self Discharge NiMH batteries in my transmitter and I charge them every couple of months or longer it seems. I don't race often but my radio is ready to go after sitting for 3-4 weeks. I wouldn't run a LiPo in my transmitter for fear of puffing and I would also expect it wouldn't hold a charge as long while sitting in my radio bag for a few weeks. I also like being able to grab AA's anywhere and make it work. 7-11 has AA batteries! :D

I have a barely used spektrum dx3r pro. I'm thinking of upgrading my radio to the Dx4r pro. Is it worth upgrading?

defMondo 01-06-2014 01:29 AM

Unless you have a specific need for 4 channels or abs then probably not worth it.

I just got one after upgrading from an original dx3r because I wanted 4 channels for a couple of cars but due to the problem with the orange receivers I might not be keeping it, I have lots of cars I only run once or twice a year and like to have them ready to go, with the expensive receivers it's just not an option. For racing I'll use the real ones no problem.

Oh well.

Post 127 mentions a cheap aftermarket receiver that works with the new radio.

Thx King DORK but I sore that. I already have about 20 of the orange receivers which would all need to be replace. Also have 10+ spektrum receivers which would be fine.

Can anyone compare this to the Airtronics/Sanwa M11X? It's the best I have tried but a little too clunky for me.

Views appreciated!

Has anyone made the switch from a euros using the 409s receiver? I have never used the spectrum radios.

Have heard that spektrum has issues sometimes with glitching. Has that been addressed with this new radio? Last yr at some big events some of my friends had issues with that.

I've been using Spektrum products since they were first available. I've had no glitching problems...

+1 I've heard about glitching issues with every brand, whether infrequently or often. I never had any issues of any kind, with my newer Spektrum equipment or my old stuff (even when using the "dreaded" Spektrum/Mamba Max Pro esc combination). I'm not saying Spektrum is better or worse than anything else, but Spektrum definitely attracts quite a group of haters, many of which likely never held let alone used one ;).

I picked up mine Friday night. Cant wait to use it this coming week. I will stick with the nimh batteries. If Spektrum wanted this radio to use LiPo, they would offer it. Im not going to make any mod's to it. Like it just how it is.

Glitching issue.. Only time I have heard of Spektrum having issues is when a flysky radio was in use, and that's on the older Spektrum radios. I have seen it happen. The older radios did not channel hop, this new does, so I don't see any issues.
