Danny,
Do you know if this motor will fit in a 1/16th scale 4x4? If so, then what gearing would work with a 9.5T MOD motor using 2s lipos and 48P spur? I will be running on a small indoor carpet track (touring car layout) with a 60a HW extreme stock esc.. |
probably not since most 1/16 use 380 size motors, not 540.
|
Our motors are regular 540 size motors so they will fit where other 540 motor fit. I do believe 1/16th use 380 size so you need to check if this is the size used in your 4x4.
|
Its for the 1/16 scale traxxas e-rev or rally. The stock motor is a 380 can but I think 1/10 scale motors like a 1410 CC will fit as well. The dimensons are Diameter 38mm / motor length 53mm.

try mocking up one of your current 540 motors.

I love my SMC batteries and now I'm in the market for a 10.5 motor. I plan to run it on a very dusty track, so I'm worried that anything I get will get worn out quickly. So, I have a few quick questions about the SM-1:
1. I know it's not a sealed can, but I assume it can be taken apart and cleaned as easily as any other motor? 2. What size bearings does it use? Are any other company's rotors compatible? And, on a different topic, those of you who have the motor, can you compare the gearing/torque curve to any other motor? I'm planning on running it in a 2WD buggy so I don't need spectacular torque, but we do have some tricky jumps and having low-end punch would be pretty helpful. Thanks :) |

Thanks :) For the exact size of the bearings I will get back to you but I'm very confident they are the same size as most other bearings. As far as other rotors go I don't think they will fit but our motors come with a strong rotor so I doubt you would want to change it. As far as gearing I will let others comment on this but so far everyone that has tried the motors have been very happy with the power. |

Received my SMC SM-1 8.5 T motor on Friday July 26 and immediately installed it in my Team C TS2 2wd SCT.
What a nicely worked piece! Motor is nice and light, smooth as silk and the machine work is second to none and it looks fantastic! Happy to report it performs just as well as it looks, great power through out the range and it stayed nice and cool, even when I got aggressive with can timing. One thing I noticed was that unlike some motors with adjustable timing the SM-1 is not difficult to adjust nor does it feel as if going to break while you adjusting it. The SM-1 is nice and solid. In the package you will find the motor a good flexible sensor wire as well as a pack of various thickness shims and o-rings. I found the tabs to be easy to solder to. I will be switching all of my 1/10 off road vehicles over to the SMC SM-1 motors ASAP. I already have a second 8.5t that I picked up Saturday night it will be going into my Team C TC02 Evo before racing this Saturday. Soon I plan on picking up another 8.5 for my TC02T Stadium Truck as well as a 6.5 for my TC04 4wd Buggy Just like SMC packs these motors come at a great price and they are ready to do the job too! If you are in the market for a motor don't hesitate pick one up you won't regret it! http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/...psc7e0452b.jpg http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0b4dddae.jpg http://i1076.photobucket.com/albums/...ps429fd812.jpg |
So, I got my 10.5 today, looks beautiful. But I do have one question. The timing "notch" on the endbell is more of a dimple than a line, looks to be like 2-3 mm wide. My is set at the very left of the timing marks, with the right edge of the dimple pointing to the first mark. Is that factory timing?
I'm asking since the photos above show the dimple set at the longest timing mark, so in the middle of the timing range. I'd like to start at factory timing, whatever that may be (0 degrees? 20 degrees?). Thanks! |
Can't wait for the 17.5! Hopefully it will be out in time for Santa to leave one under the tree!
