I have a question on motor temps. I'm running the T8i 1950kv 16/45 gearing in a TLR 3.0, I'm only 204g over min. weight requirement. I run indoor medium size high bite clay. After a 12min run motor is 190f. Is this acceptable? I plan to cut 40g with a lighter battery. How much would this help?

He's maybe one tooth over geared.
The T8i is sensitive to gearing and if you're on a "medium" sized track you're over geared at 16T. Go 15T. 190 after a full run is ok temp wise but I'd wager dropping the tooth will help. |
Something that may need to be clarified going forward now that we can see internal motor temps in the log... was it 190° on the outside or inside? I knew the temps iniside would be higher but it seems to be about 50° higher, more than I thought it would be (4x SC)
Maybe not related to old carpet, but previously we always talked about outside of the can temps, now someone may be talking about inside temps that are really high with their setup and gearing correct or at least close leaving everyone scratching their heads. |
Thanks for responding everyone, I apologize for the delayed response. The temp is an outside the can. My lipo is a protek 4s 100c 4300mah. I was running 15/43 and temps were 173 after 12min. I want to stay with a 4s, thinking about trying the SMC 4s shorty. I heard good things, I think it's a 70c 4600mah. I will go down to 15 on the pinion, I was running everyone down on the straight.

As Randy and Nick stated earlier, drop a tooth on the pinion. If your using most of that 4300 up in that 12 minutes that will definitely cause temps to rise as well when the voltage drops near cutoff.

Just a thaught for everyone awaiting the app. You may want to look into getting a cable to connect your phone to your hotwire. My s4 requires a micro usb to mini usb (hotwire). I had to order it on Amazon cause I couldn't find it in any local stores.... It would suck to download the app only to find out that you can't use it till you get a cable.

Click the search this thread link then click advanced, that should work. Google is better at finding things in rctech than rctech's search function.
I don't run the HD motor so I can't say but in general if your having heat issues with the motor, use a heatsink. If you gear to max temp with a fan and the fan fails you are running a lot hotter than you wanted and won't know till you pull off the track. If your talking about the ESC fan, 2 cell short course, probably needed. You can try without and if you thermal, put the fan in. |
