Fixmybug... it does sound like a over heating issue.

did you check that your fan is working on the esc?

If I put in a 10.5, the truck will lose all go after about 3 minutes of running. I have steering, but no throttle. By the time I get back to the pits, throttle comes back and everything works (until next time). When the temp is checked, both the motor and ESC are at about 140*

I have tried different motors (SMC, Reedy, and a new Trinity D4) but it happens with all 3. If I put the 17.5 or 13.5 back in, no problems. I run the suggested gearing in the manual, and nothing feels excessively hot.

Any ideas? The RS Gen 2 is supposed to be rated down to 8.5 which one other local racer uses without any problems. So I am at a loss.

Should I just trade up to an RSX?
This can be a few things to be honest.

What radio? Servo? Receiver?

Have you data logged the stoppage?

Just a quick one anyone running the RS Gen2 8.5T combo in a 2WD buggy and have any issues with it thermoing?
I know gearing and ambient temperature etc adds to this but I’ve never ran and ESC with it max motor before.
I only ask as I’m looking to get one for my RB6.
Cheers

I've never had any issues running my 8.5 Gen2 in my RB6. I run plenty of boost too at times. Just make sure nothing binds and that the gear mesh is set correctly.

Not an apples to apples comparison but for what it's worth I run a 6.5T Gen2 in a Short Course truck. I run the factory motor timing and leave the ESC in blinky. The thermal performance to be quite good. The only time it ever reached 160* I discovered I had some drivetrain binding after a wreck.

Thanks for all your replies and I'll give it ago.
Not sure why I questioned Tekin stuff as it's the only stuff I use.

Randy I run on dirt track
I think I'll even try an 8.5T in my RT6 ST

Randy,

Sorry, I forgot I even asked a question here.

I have since upgraded to the RSX and all issues have gone away. However the same exact thing started happening in my buggy. So I went ahead and upgraded it as well.

To answer your questions though...

The Radio is an Airtronics MT4, Servo is Spektrum S6040 and receivers are the Airtronics RX-37W or RX-461.

I have not data logged anything because honestly I forgot it had that capability.

Lowspark, the RSGen2 does not have a fan.

I have a tekin RSX Gen2 installed in my DEX 8T Truggy. Whenever I lightly tap the trigger it skyrockets forward. I want to have smooth control, anyone know how I can set this?

RSX is not rated for 8th scale let along truggy. You should be using a RX8 ESC.

With all that being said has the ESC been calibrated to the radio and what are your ESC settings? What battery motor setup are you running?

Sorry I'm actually using the RX8 Gen2. Yes radio has been calibrated to radio, I'm running a 5000mAH, 50C 4S battery with Tekin 2000kv motor. I don't know what you mean by what esc settings.

This is so easy, the difference is 1.

Oh and the 2406 has a 12.3mm rotor, the 2407 a 12.5mm I believe. The 12.3 is the RPM version.

I run a 8.5 in my buggy with a RS Gen 2. You should have no problem keeping your motor or esc cool.
