Anyone else using the 5mm to 4mm bullet adapters? I just got the SMC ones with some new batteries and ground / cut off the upper (larger outer diameter) material from the adapter so it doesn't stick out beyond the packs case.

I did this to make sure a pack doesn't accidentally get bounced around and have the protruding adapters come in contact with a conductive material, such an incident would surely cause it to short out and likely explode or start on fire.

Curious if anyone else has done this or has another solution?

All,

Apologies if this has been answered but how are people charging their 5mm SMC batteries? Does anyone use a banana to 5mm male charge cable? Or do you make your own 5mm to [insert your preferred adapter] cable and then connect that to [insert your preferred adapter] to banana to the charger?

I'm just wondering if there is a more direct way to connect the battery when charging then needing 2 cables.

Thanks

5mm charger leads, or change your bullets to 5mm

Most chargers have 4mm female bullets so that lead has 4mm on charger side and 5mm on the battery side.

Does anyone have any experience with the RF-170 2S ESC? I really like the pricing and the advertised 2 year warranty, but have heard very little about the SMC ESC's. Has it been reliable? Is it smooth? How are the brakes? Are they consistent at all speeds? Thanks!

I can't speak for the 170a esc but I do have one of their 120a esc's and I find it to be very similar to my old team powers electronics. Easy to use, reliable and power delivery is smooth. Their Warranty is nice too considering how great their customer service has been for me. Two years at that price is a steal

Yes but I am hearing that some 4mm bullets don't fit snugly into a lot of chargers 4mm females like bananas do...

This one is a good charging cable with 4mm bullet but almost banana like on the charger end and the 4/5mm step bullets for all situations on the battery end.

I think these are it! Weird that I can't easily search for these...I've been on just about every website...

Do you all think that the 5mm bullet with the banana type bump out will fit the SMC 5mm female? If so, this is it!

Default SMC ESCs on 3S/4-pole?

Well, I smoked my last piece of 1/8 Novak hardware over the weekend and am looking at SMC's ESCs.

I run a Hobbywing 3656SD on 3S with what used to be a Novak Activ8 V2. I've chatted with Danny a bit about the RF-150-8 and it's not going to work on my 3S setup (4S-6S).

Has anyone used their RF-170-2S on 3S with a 4-pole motor? Any opinions on this ESC or should I look elsewhere? I'm thinking of this or Hobbywing XR8 Plus or XR8 SCT.

EDIT: Danny @ SMC got back to me and advised against using the current ESCs on 3S with a 4-pole short course motor. I'll be looking at the HW offerings more closely.

I've got 2 and they really are the best bang for your buck you can get right now. Especially when you get the motor, esc, program box combo. I have been super happy with the customer service and personal feed back. I also really like the radio lead being adjustable. It comes with a short and long one. Been running the 7.5 in 2wd buggy and the 6.5 in the wheeler. Zero issues so far.

There are not too many ESC's I haven't run so if you are interested in detailed feed back about how they actually drive just ask.

Mamba X (https://www.amainhobbies.com/castle-...155-00/p578314

This will work and be a beast in that kind of truck. You will not have to worry about it. I have used the previous version of the Mamba Max Pro in 8th scale with great results. This has a better BEC and a better case design than the previous version. It also has the torque control that is in my opinion on loamy or very slipper tracks better than any slipper clutch or smooth trigger finger.

Default TrueSpec 4000 Shorty

I need to purchase another shorty and the last ones I purchased were the 4400's. For a charging cable I was going to get this:

https://www.amainhobbies.com/protek-...k-5326/p254468

or does the battery come with a cable like the 4400 did? I would then need to get a 5mm to Deans to use in the car. Any recommendations?
