I've always run SMC batteries, they are great. I was getting the 5000 mah, 70C 2S packs and they only weighed in at 257 grams. I splurged and got his 6000 mah 100C Extreme Race pack in November, but it weighs 312 grams and I'm overweight now. Plus for some reason that battery has puffed. Danny says the Extreme Race were really packed in tight in the plastic case and they tend to puff some.
Anyway, fast forward to now and I decided to retire my 5000's and buy his new 5200 mah, 90C batteries and they only weigh 282 grams which just perfect for what I need. I have three packs and I couldn't be happier.

And to the poster that asked about what to do with the side that is not used for the 5mm inboard connectors, just put tape over that side, I use a clear packing tape. I also use nail polish and paint the PLUS sign red, just to make sure I don't hook up backwards.

I'm extremely sorry if this has been covered before...I am currently using EC connectors, the larger ones (can't remember if the bigger ones are EC3 or 5).
But man these things are hard to get together and apart for battery changes, charging etc. Are these the best choice or is there a better connector?
I have two Losi 8eight e-buggies using SMC 6500 70C batteries (a few years old but still going strong).
If there is a more convenient connector then I am all for it but I wouldn't want to sacrifice safety of performance. It's basically impossible for my 12yr old son to pull the battery from the buggy. I have to do it...and it's still a pain.
Thanks for any help!

Hmm... I run the hell outta mine not even a mm of puff. Take good care of them? Storage mode after use, balance charge them?
#4152
Yep, balance charged every time, stored between races (race every Friday) at 3.85v. Charged at 1c. Never discharged lower than 3.7v.
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, just stating that they did puff and I have no concern from a performance side.

Nope. Since it puffed from the first charge, and each one did it, I took it as part of the design. Yes, maybe that may be a flaw or maybe not. But I have read other manufactures mention their batteries may puff slightly, and I believe that the hard case is just really tight around the soft pack. These batteries have not changed in the amount of deformation in more expansion or shrinking. So I have taken it for lack of a better word, as growing pains. Once puffed after the first charge, it hasn't budged. And has gone through an avg of 120 charge/discharge cycles per battery.
I do have LRP Super Shorties I run in my buggy that haven't puffed, but it is a translucent case and you can see a gap between the inside of the hard case and the soft cells. So if those suckers ever puff the hard case, then I think I might have a problem. lol.
