probably shouldn't be making this comparison but last night race at my local track did 3 rounds of qualifying on nano-tech's and the main on SMC Race Formula's, fair bit of a difference, had to change my throttle control a fair bit to stop over-jumping the double-double on our track. 10 minute main with no noticeable voltage drop too. So far loving the SMC's.

This was the second time using my 4600mah 70c shorty in my 17.5 stock blinky SC10.2 last night, and the battery cracked..I recently sent a battery in a couple weeks ago because the first time I used it, it got super hot after a qualifier and melted my battery strap into the battery. (LVC being at 3.4) Now I don't know what to do...

Second battery that something bad happened now..

Do I electrical tape it, or send it in hoping to get another?

Is the case cracked or did the two side come apart because of puffed cell?

My case cracked first time out. Was told by SMC it was not covered by the warranty.

I'm running the 4600 shorty in my b4.2 stock buggy. So far so good.

Not sure how long you ran for, but just curious... can your lvc be set to say 7v?
If so you are running a total lvc of 3.4 not 3.4 per cell.
How long was the run that melted the strap?

Getting it hot enough to melt the plastic? That's pretty darn close to a total meltdown of the battery.

The case is not puffed at all, it cracked by the inputs. And yes, I was referring to 3.4v/cell for LVC. It melted after a 5 minute qualifier. I sent it in because he thought there was a problem internally. He sent me this new one, that is now cracked after my second run with it..

Do you have the proper amount of foams in the truck?

Putting a shorty in a SC10 takes a LOT of filler. If you put in a shorty without foams it will move around no matter how tight you crank the strap down.

Wow...a crack?

I've only had a crack case one time and that was went a mod touring car decided to slam into my F1 car on the back straight. Like what 1967 said, make sure you have foams when running shorty in the SC10.

I have an alternative battery strap. I drilled holes on either side of the battery compartment, inches away from each other, threaded B4 axles in, and had a solid thin bar go across so that problem wouldn't happen.

Along with the LVC, the SP Reventon Pro only goes up to 3.4v/cell. But either way, I never go to LiPo cutoff. I just go out for 5 minutes at a time.

I would have to see pics of your setup. I will just say that hard case batteries will rarely crack if secured properly in the vehicle.

If they have a tiny bit of room to wiggle around, they will absorb a LOT of forces. That is why foams are generally used to suspend the battery. You can't allow them to move and potentially bang into a solid part of the vehicle. That is too much for these batteries.
