SMC LIPO BATTERY THREAD

I was curious about that too, it makes more sense to buy 3 6500 than to buy 2 7200s, unless you absolutely need the extra 700 mah to finish a race.
Prices are the same, he's just referencing how much of a jump it takes from the 6500 to the 7200s

Based on the comments after the original post, everybody seems to think there was a huge price increase when in fact there wasn't. The 7200 70c packs were $60 last Christmas and went to $65 sometime this summer.

Yea I went and looked last night and didn't notice any huge increase in the prices if any from a few months back in the 2S packs.
But look at it this way too...simply business...supply and demand. If SMC is always out of stock the supply is low and the demand is high. Adjusting the prices up only makes sense until you find the sweet spot of sales and income. I know if I was Danny I would be thinking about adding $5 to the prices and see what happens. You can always lower them again assuming your cost doesn't change.

I looked at the prices mid summer and they are the same now has they were then.
I just don't understand the extra $20 for 700 mah. Maybe it cost that much more to product a 7200 over a 6500.

Its a lot cheaper to go from 100hp to 200hp then it is from 200hp to 300hp in a real car, I think its no different here. Its not only the higher capacity, but because of the higher capacity, the IR is also lower. This applies for all batteries.

I get it cost more to make that 700 mah, but I find $20 quite high since that's almost half of a 6500. Maybe it takes 2 people to get the pack in to the case. Lol
By no means am I saying its over priced, just curious why the difference. He has excellent batteries for an excellent price plus customer service to follow. I just find it more logical to buy 3 6500s instead of 2 7200s. For $5 more I get an extra 5100mah.

Are you sure you are not comparing off-spec packs to the good lots?
Sometimes Danny gets a lot of batteries that have a slightly higher IR or lower total mAHr than his specs call for. When the batteries are not off-spec a lot (like maybe only a few 100 mAHr lower), he will sell them at a reduced price rather than sending them back to the manufacturer.
I know this from experience because I have purchased one of the off-spec 7000 1S packs and two of the off-spec 7000 2S packs.

The 7200 packs are a lot more $$$ to manufacture, similar to the 70c vs 50c in shorties and the 4s shorty, the cost of the cells is higher to get a high standard will small size to cram the extra MAH into the roar case, the price has been $64,95 for quite some time.
Cheers Justin
