Danny
JUst got home and got the battery. Talk about good service :) A little heavier then the 4500 4s practice pack I had on the bench but not by much and I expected it to be since it is 2000 more mah.
All cells were balanced and charged up perfectly. Its on its first discharge cycle now.

The break in I mentioned above was started when I was flying electric heli about 5 years ago and a 3s 2200 pack was over $100 from thunder power and it is a modified method from their directions.
Off to rebuild diffs for this weekend. I'll give you a full report on sunday night.

I do a break in method also. Mine is a little more simple though. My Hyperion has a repeat mode. I set it to discharge down to 3.0v from storage mode it's shipped at then repeat a charge/discharge cycle 5 times all at 1c (charge & discharge) with a 10 minute break between each. I have done this with turnigy, gens ace, & throttle works lipos. In each brand I have seen an increase in mah the lipo would take by the 5th cycle. The turnigy climbed by around 200mah average. The gens ace gained a little less at about 150mah. The throttle works gained 76mah (did those most recently & both packs gained the same). When running I set my cut off @ 3.3v & other than for initial cycling I discharge to 3.2. I alway put the batteries into storage mode by the next day. I always charge the night before a race, but I set the cutoff to 90% capacity & then top them off at the track. All charging & discharging I do @ home, the 1st charge @ a race day, or for a practice day is done @ 1c. On a race day I am typically trying to keep batteries charged for 4 vehicles (2 for me & 1 for each of my sons) with 2 chargers so I charge @ the maximum amps I can (20a on my 720i & 11a-18a on my 720i ac/dc). I always balance charge every single time (I'm told that is overkill for 2s, but I have seen a difference after just 2 charges on 2s).

Oh, I alway rub the rabbits foot with my left thumb & chant "oh mighty lipo gods, please let my lipos work for 1 more charge" as I charge them:lol: all of this is done with no OCD either;)

I would say for testing purposes you would want to use it like most people would. Charge it and run it.

I have more than 40 lipo's all brands. I have never broke one in. Some are in there 3rd year of life. 2 of them are SMC's. A 2s 9000 Sport-Max and a 2s 4000 Lightning Volt.

I always balance charge the night before race and then just quick charge during race day. If a cell gets slightly overcharged during race day it will get discharged quickly. I never charge above 1c as I have many batts and never need to rush a charge.

I am just stating what has worked for me over the years.

They are the latest rage, I get 3 day run times. I can make iron man races, over 1000 miles, Ivan Stewart style.

Lol. 9000

Had my first runs with the new shorty packs this weekend, qualified 2nd and won the A-main on sat in stock SC, TQ'ed stock stadium truck and finished 2nd in the a-main.
Today I went to a completley different track that I had never been to and Missed the A-main in Mod SC by a mere 3 seconds, then got hacked to death in the B-main, started off good then had a brain fart 1 minute in and went back to 6th, finally worked my way back up to the back bumper of 2nd place and got taken out by a lapper and finished 5th (bummer), all in all I really liked the packs, I will be ordering more soon.

Ran my new 6500 2s yesterday and was very happy. Great punch and ran cool. Even after 6 minutes in an scte with 4600 pro 4 the punch was consistent. Will be ordering another one tonight.

6500 60C 4s review

Danny,
Do not be afraid to sell the 6500 60C 4s pack to the public! Ran about 5cycles on it yesterday. 2 in practice and 1 in qualifiing and then the B main and bump up to the A main.

I mentioned the weight difference between my other battery and the 6500. It was just under a 100 grams heavier then the Turnigy 4500.

Our layout was tight since it was indoor. I ended up dropping to a 18 tooth pinion on my 8.2E. The elctronics in my buggy are a Hobbyking 150A esc and Orion Vortex 8 1750kv sensorless. This set up is smooth and surprisingly efficient.

Ran my Turnigy 4500 30C pack first in practice and then the 6500. Punch was like night and day with the 6500. From a stand still my buggy launched hard and almost lifted off the ground and if I wasn't careful on the throttle would lift the front end out the corners!

The layout was tight since it was indoor. I ended up dropping to a 18 tooth pinion on my 8.2E. The elctronics in my buggy are a Hobbyking 150A esc and Orion Vortex 8 1750kv sensorless. This set up is smooth and surprisingly efficient.

After the 8 minute B-main the 6500 only took about 1800 mah which I was surprised because I was on the throttle a lot due to a bad start and multiple hacks. It was a tough 8 minutes to get back to the 2nd spot for the bump, at the end of lap one I went from 4th on the grid to 9th. I ended up in B to start because I only got 1 full qualifier in (lost pinion gear in Q2, and ESC came loose on Q3).

In the A-main I made a bad choice for tires as the track was changing and getting a little dusty and finished 6th out of 10. I felt like I had to fight the car to get it to turn. Not the battery's fault as it performed the same from practice to the A main.

When I got home I charged the 6500 after the 10 minute A-main and it too 2019 Mah and the cells were at 3.91 per cell. discharged it to storage mode after that. THe cells were always perfectly balanced at the end of each run even after the 15 minute practice sesion I did. It only took 3000 mah after that.

As I stated earlier, get this pack to market as soon as you feel comfortable with your testing results. This pack is on par and I feel better then the more expensive batteries on the market. Next time I am at the track for practice or racing I may lend it to one of the factory guys and see what they think of it and I'll post thier thoughts as well.

Now if paypal would release my payment to you for the 2 shorty's I ordered saturday I would be able to get my 2wd buggy ready.
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to get my impressions of teh 6500 60C out to everyone.

Thanks for the info but one thing to note is that you can't compare the performance of a 4500 versus a 6500 as the bigger cells will have lower IR.

Glad to hear it ran well but I'm more concerned about how it holds up over a bunch of cycles.

I'm the type of guy who wants to sell the best possible packs with best IR which is what our Race Formula packs achieve but this comes at a higher price. I know the Hobby Kings of this world sell lower quality cells at cheaper prices and they sell allot of packs. My goal is to offer a cheaper pack for those who are on a budget or don't need the very best packs. This is where these 60C packs would fit in if testing result is conclusive. If cycle life is reasonable for the price then I think we can offer this model.

We already offer the 6500-60C as 2S packs.

As far as your Paypal payment goes we need to capture the funds which I do once my employee has printed off the invoice. Your order will ship today.

Danny/SMC 11-19-2012 11:40 AM

We've added a new section to our website that is for packs that are out of spec. For example the 7000-1S pack we offer with 400-500mAh lower at a lower price which makes them perfect for club racing or practicing so you don't wear out your higher priced 7000 pack.

We just added the 6500-2S-70C and 7200-2S-70C to this section as the packs we got in last week have higher IR than expected. For those of you who purchased these packs last week email me at [email protected] and I can send you a credit for the difference or we can make an arrangement to take back the packs. I'm very sorry about this as this is the first time we have had an issue with these models. Already working with the factory to make sure this doesn't happen again. The packs will run fine and are reliable but the IR isn't what we expect it to be. My goal is to sell the best packs at the best price but also make sure they are at the proper specs. Just because we sell all our packs at a lower price now doesn't mean we don't care about the specs of the packs.

http://www.smc-racing.net/index.php?...ory&path=67_89

For those who need the very best possible IR we expect a new shipment of packs to arrive on the first week of December and we should also have some out of spec 4600-2S short case packs with lower mAh but good IR.

Plexabit 11-19-2012 03:01 PM

How big of a difference will the higher IR make?

Danny/SMC 11-19-2012 03:09 PM

Very hard to say. I would think the pack will feel a bit less punchy but still have very consistent power. I hate to say this but I think these will still be better than Nanotechs as the ones I tested were higher in IR and low in average voltage. These use the same good materials just this particular batch we got is off compared to what we have been selling. I think with the price I set these at is a very good quality pack at a great price.

Plexabit 11-20-2012 05:38 AM

I noticed in the checkout that there's a discount code spot. Do you actually have discount codes?

Danny/SMC 11-20-2012 07:04 AM

From time to time we may do a discount code but at this time we have all models set at a very low price. For shipping we charge shipping as normally places who offer free shipping have it added in their price so you pay for it anyway.
