Confirmed
I switched back to the "regular" module and the bounce went away as was confirmed by John. I am going to call John Adams at Horizon today to see if they are aware of the problem and what is going on. It seems to work - just disturbing that it works on an "older" 3PK and has the "bounce" on the new new one!

Got my 2300mah battery pack built and charged. The power draw from the Spektrum transmitter module has been reduced dramatically over the stock 700mah pack that came with it. There is still flickering with the number to the right of the decimal in the voltage read-out but the draw has been reduced to a snail's crawl. For 3PK users: if you are having this problem, go with 2000mah batteries or higher.

After talking with John Adams, there is nothing "wrong" with the Spektrum module or the TX. It is an anomoly in how the circuit in the TX "averages" the voltage of the pack. In reality, the Spektrum module switches on and off 60 times a second and the display is seeing those drops in the transmitting voltage. If you notice that the voltage does not start flickering until the green light comes on on the mocule a second or 2 after the power is first turned on to the TX. This only happens with some of hte Futaba 3PK's - not all.

Okay, so maybe I'm not the smartest guy around, but I thought I could figure out a new radio. Apparently I was wrong.
I replaced my Lynx 3D with a 3PK tonight, and dropped the Spektrum module right in. I set it to use PPM and set all the adjustments to pretty neutral positions. I figured I'd have to set up the speed control again (GTX) and all that, so I started that process. I can get it to set the throttle, but there doesn't seem to be enough brake throw for it to register any brake at all. I can see the throttle and brake graphs move along just fine with full throw in the EXP screen, but the speed control won't recognize the brake. Also, the steering seems goofy. I can adjust the trim and the wheels move just fine, but the wheel on the radio doesn't seem able to control them. Same deal, I can see the steering action on the EXP screen, but can't control it. I was able to get the ESC to set at one point, but it's pretty far out of whack. I have to pull the trigger about 2/3 the way before getting any throttle. Presumably, there's some settings I need to adjust to get things where they need to be. I've been reading through the manual and haven't found anything obvious yet. |

Try starting a new model for your car, and see if you can get control that way... Might be some legacy settings you cant find and a new model setup will give you a better chance... or erase the current model and start again.. :( |
Galifrey,
After extensive investigation, it's been discovered that the problem with the radio is that I'm severely retarded. Actually, it took a couple of hours away from it to arrive at the same step (new model) which immediately fixed the problem. The ATL and D/R were set to zero by default. Brilliant! So I'm happy to report that the black 3PK "Megatech" works just fine with the same Spektrum I used in my Lynx 3D. I was happy to see that I was able to rob the recently purchased NiHh battery from the Lynx and use it in the Futaba w/o modification. Seem like that thing will be a pretty convenient backup. I can -almost- force the black module cover on w/o modification. It's very slightly off, but not enough for me to break out the Dremel. Not yet, anyway. |
Voltage bounce
This also happens with some of the gold radios - not just the black synth version. My son's radio is only a few weeks old and is the gold version.

this isnt about spectrum or anything but if for users that have the 3pk and i do but im just woundering how can i make my steering to normal from reverse ?
|
can anyone help me on this ??? im going to leave to race in a few
|
Setup -> Channel Reverse -> Steering > Press up or down key to switch back and forth between normal and reversed.
|
alright thanks !

Anyone know where I can get a Spectrum for my new 3PK? Thanks, Ray

Just a question from a race directors point of view, when you go to a race, are tracks still impounding your DSM radios???
Also, if you're a race director, what are you putting in as a "frequency" in your racer info??? I have Autoscore Pro. Thanks. |
The new version of Autoscore accepts a DSM radio freq - think it puts an S in the freq spot.

SPEKTRUM ......legality issue ?
Can anyone confirm that SPEKTRUM is approved for use by the major sanctioning bodies such as ROAR, NORRCA etc. Although it was mention in the literature that came with it. Reason I asked was, I was at a weekend race saturday. I was informed by the race director that Spektrum is only good for weekend "club " races and not for major races such as Region races or Nats. Iam hoping that somebody from SPECKTRUM/Horizon can show us a copy of the approval letters from the sanctioning bodies, this will elliminate any confusions. :( Thanx
