Attention Spektrum Owners

Spektrum technology is working extremely well for thousands of racers throughout the country. Back orders keep climbing as the product is proving to perform as advertised.

However, in a small number of cases, some racers have experienced issues. We’re sorry for these inconveniences and have addressed everything we’re aware of.

Bind Button
While we tested 100% of the first production run, it turns out that some bind buttons are failing in the field after repeated use. This prevents the system from being bound (programming the receiver to the module and setting of the fail-safe.) If you’re following the correct binding procedure outlined in the instructions, and you’re unable to get the green LED to blink on the DSM receiver or transmitter module, your system probably has a defective bind button. Please return the complete unit to Horizon for service.

Trim Offset
A few racers have reported steering and throttle trim changes, either during operation or when turning the system on/off. We have identified the problem as being related to certain combinations of servos and/or speed controls and have fixed the problem. If your system exhibits any trim offset problem, please return your unit for service.

Delay
On a small number of indoor tracks, some racers tell us they’ve felt a "delay" at times. Again, Spektrum engineers and R&D staff have worked hard to isolate the problem and believe we’ve corrected the situation. If you experience any type of “delay,” please send your unit in for an update.

As our customers know, Horizon will only be satisfied when you’re satisfied. We take pride in bringing DSM technology to the marketplace, and tried our very best to make DSM perfect out of the gate. For most, DSM fulfills the goal. While we may have missed our goal of perfection, we appreciate your input and assistance in improving this technology. You can rest assured that we will adapt to make this product perform up to your expectations.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Horizon Hobby, Inc.
A great and coherent reponse. My KO unit will be shipping next week so I'm told. I wonder if I'm the first here to use it with a Mars?

I race at local indoor carpet track and have been running the specktrum and have not had any problems. The track is located in an outlet mall. I just think some one always has to have some thing negitive to say!

B]ITS A LONG TRIP FROM HERE TO THERE, BUT GLAD TO SEE YOU MADE THE JOURNEY[/B]

Nice to see horizon has posted a reply to show everyone that they are working on the problems and if you have problem to send it in. so qiut complaining about yours not working and send it in a get a new one. I personally race with Mr. Adams and I know that he wants nothing more than his product to work flawlessly.

we understand that the guys at horizon are your friends, But coming on this thread and telling everyone thats reporting the problems they are having and the FIXes to those problems were just being negitive was just wrong. go to your corner mister, time out for you.

you know people that just like to bash things without giving it a chance. I have had 3 Novak XXL recievers that I have sent in and had replaced only to have the same problem that I had before. I put in a stock JR reciever and the problem was fixed. I didn't get on a forum and start bad mouthing Novak for the problems that I had.

This is a little different.
Thats just a receiver, this is a whole system that is trying to replace the way we do things now. A little more is at stake.
I think the reason people are bringing up major concerns is because they WANT this system to succeed, NOT to fail.
Who doesn't want glitch free, crystal-less radios?
The more people complain, the more the success of this product will increase.
Complaints help the manufacturer resolve and debug their product.

Feedback and "complaining" are two different things, but you are right about letting the company know of a larger problem or small problems that seem to have more frequent occurences.

Well it is nice to see that Spektrum replied on their website with product return and update statements and that it covers all the complaints that were reported here. Makes me feel better waiting for the Futaba version.

With electronics or gadgets that have software built in to the chips these days it just shows that there is a whole host of compatibility issues to deal with. The response is an example as it appears to be a firmware update. The binding problems were a result of a button which is a quality issue. Not suprised here either. Just a batch that escaped that were not up to specs.

They may be using an off shore production company for the circuit board construction and assembly or even here in the USA the company that won the bidding for the production work made a few mistake and some units got through sub standard as a result.

You guys should know this happens to all electronic products. You may require a certain patch for your computer peripherals and software and someone else doesn't. Your cell phone (Blackberry)may need to be sent in for a firmware upgrade to work properly, etc. Other items are DOA or damaged being electronically impaired. This happens to be a very precise type device as it uses very high frequency microwave signals and everything has to be right. The traces on the board and all the components and the resistance and caps values internally. And not every piece is tested before shipment.

I know it sucks for the guys that had the problems and no quick answers.

thats a really nice statement but it doesn't excuse your behavior, now back in corner.

the only experience i have seen personally with the Spektrum has been fine... a buddy here got one wth a new M8, i think cyclone speedo. he ran it indoors last weekend on offroad, and onroad concrete. he liked it just fine, and didnt notice any problems. i thinbk he is gonna use it indoors on carpet/foam this weekend.

but, i know this was the first one out LHS got, just a week ago or so... maybe the problems were in the first batch? i know i am on the list for the Helios set, so here is me crossing my fingers.....!

Hey guys, I just wanted to let everyone know I spoke to Chris at Horizon product support this morning. He told me there were some verified problems explained in the previously posted quote from the website. One of them was an exact description of the problem I experienced at the Birds (unequal trim settings). He was very helpful and said the new program they are uploading to the modules and receivers will fix all the problems they have found in the last 3 weeks since the first production run. He also mentioned that all the current and future production runs will obviously include the latest updates.

I was very pleased with how honest he was and told him I understand that there will almost always be glitches in new technology and I completely understand and will help in any way possible to improve the equipment. I hope all you guys will be as understanding so we can look forward to the Spektrum being perfected ASAP. This is great new technology and I for one am very pleased to see Horizon working so hard to get it right.

Hello,

I have a pré-order placed for two Futaba systems.
What puzzles me at the moment is how the device will be
incorporated in the Futaba 3PK transmitter.

As you can see in the attached picture, the sending module of the 3PK is located at the top of the transmitter.
So if you put in the Spektrum module the antenna would be pointing away or towards you, instead of pointing to the sky.

Since their website states that the same module will fit the Futaba 3PJ also which has the module horizontally in the back (similar picture shown of another Futaba transmitter) I am wondering how it will all work out.

Can somebody tell me if you can rotate the antenna on the current spektrum modules 360° ?
Is the antenna flexible ?
That would already be some kind of solution.

Thanks,
Patrick

Not only does it rotate, but it's hinged and can point straight out, which if you lay it horizontal (like the Futaba 3PK) it will point straight up!!
