Please read for those having BEC issues

Bit nervous as I am using a very powerful KO HC servo on it!!

I'm only new to these forums, infact this is my first ever post, so not sure how it's going to go.
I just spent a heap of hours coming up with a fix for the new ix8 and Savox SC1267 servo I'm running in my DEX408. After about a million brown outs and testing during the brown out to confirm that it was the case I decided I needed to sort it out. After upgrading from a Mamba Monster, I was a little disappointed that the ix8 could not keep up with the demands of the servo even with a capacitor. I managed to sort the problem out however and the car is now super reliable. I contemplated running an external BEC, but room in the DEX is at a minimum and I didn't particularly want another component fitted to the car due to weight issues and having another component that can fail.

So here's the fix. Guaranteed to work....(this will only work if the car is running 1 or more 2S packs...we need 7.4V and not sure if it will work on any other ESC. Also disregard anything else you have heard as this only screwed me over in my testing)

Remove plug from receiver that controls ESC and from that remove ONLY the power wire (red or middle). This leaves only the signal and earth in the plug. Then solder a wire onto the first +ve terminal in the circuit starting from the -ve terminal of the ESC. (This is a must!!! ie. if running 2x2S packs in series to have 14.4V you have 2 +ve terminals. So starting at the -ve terminal of the ESC we follow the wiring to the -ve of one battery, the +ve of this battery is the one we need to solder to to power our receiver, if you solder onto the +ve of the other battery, you will supply our receiver with 14.4V and the servo will last about 3 seconds.)
Once soldering a wire onto the correct battery terminal, the wire needs to be run in place of the one removed earlier. The receiver uses the original earth through the ESC which is the bit that had me buggered.
Once you have done this thats it. You are now supplying your servo with unregulated 2S power, which the majority now handle, and don't have to worry about capacitors. The ESC runs cooler and the servo works at its optimum. Don't worry about 1 battery being drawn down more than the other if only one is powering the servo, the draw is minimal and over numerous
25 min runs flat out around a track (i dont bash) on 6900 mah packs for testing purposes, the differences over 3 separate occasions was only .15V between both packs and between cells of that pack not worth mentioning.

I know this is a long post, but I hope it can save people the headache which it gave me. If anyone has any dramas feel free to PM me

Sorry for my bad english.

Thinking of getting this iX8 and dinamic 8 2200kv motor from my LHS tomorrow. But after reading all the post, it made me confused whether to go with iX8 combo or Hobbywing xerun 150A combo . Xerun is like half the price of iX8.

If Xerun died, I lost half the cost if compared to when iX8 died...hemm.. very hard to decide as I want performance but really value my money as these hobbies stuff are very expensive over here. For comparison..the iX8 esc combo price is like one third of a month salary of a one year experience electrical engineer (bachelor in electrical engineer graduated from international unversity)

Any one running the new version with the 1.7 software. And does anyone know what the new software changes

From experience at the local club the Xerun seems more durable and reliable.

I put the LRP IX8 in my buggy.. fried it the second week out. It had steering but no throttle. Sent it back for repairs on Nov 26....still dont have it back. I had to buy another ESC or miss two points races. I bought the RX8 works like a champ!!! Just my experience with it. NOT real happy!!!

Has anyone heard if they fixed the issues when running a 2S lipo.

Is the Ix8 only for 3s to 6s batteries, or can it do a 2s as well i would like to try it in my 1/10 sc10 4x4. any input would be great thanks

It also works on 2S. Some racers had problems with the ix8 on 2S but I never had with mine in my SC10 4x4.

I use an ix8 in my RC8.2e and it works flawlessly.

Not sure if this is the place for it but I picked up an old SPX8 esc, and am only wanting to use it in a VTA 2s application (it was in a job lot, it works, why not) but it had a schotty diode soldered on it, guy I got it from said it was like that but from what I understand on brushless, it's a bit of a no no (looked factory tho) I have taken it off for now, but does anyone know if they came with them stock, and why?

So how's the sec doing these days?

mr4tcsdrifter 05-04-2013 11:33 AM

Has anybody had an issue with this esc hitting thermo no matter what gearing you try? something im going to have to send back to Lrp?

Thanks

mikeinsocal 05-06-2013 09:16 PM

i hate mine!

on my 3rd one so far... seems to be having bec issues with my savox because when I turn and hit the throttle at the same time it cogs and sputters real bad til I let off the steering wheel. Also all 3 have had button issues which is y I made the 50 mile drive to exchange them in the first place. I must say lrp was good about it but at this point basically spent 200 on a worthless esc and 100 on gas back and forth twice and now a third time? WTF lrp? sc10 4x4 is my only vehicle and I don't want to drive it because it is so frustrating. I cant even change settings or anything because the buttons stopped working after my first run and that is the only way to change anything unlike others that have software to hook up to a laptop and have way more options for setup. thumbs down

larryh37wi 06-01-2013 07:19 AM

Just bought a lrp ix8 speed control to put in my Tekno eb48 and was looking at it and if you shake it you can hear something inside like loose??????? Anyone else notice this or is it only mine

mikeinsocal 06-02-2013 09:05 PM

Hey man sorry to hear they got you too! I'm waiting for my 4th one now exchanged to get here I have already replaced it with another brand that is doing great for me so.far, again lrp has had great customer service but that doesn't keep me on the track when my truck is down for upto a couple months waiting for replacements, anyway that noise is just the loose buttons, all mine did that right out of the box, I even checked one at my lhs and could hear it through the box do all your set up from the beginning because most likely one if not both buttons will quit working soon after you run it and will not be able to make changes from then on good luck, I'm selling mine soon as I get it back
