sure man, its overpowered, but my main concern is the heat issues itself, I could run 3s, but I have 6s capable ESC, and thats what I am asking. Hell I could even use 2200kv hobbywing motor and what would happen then, would it literally explode? :D

Yes you would generate alot of heat running that setup. Its ok to use this kind of power on 6s, but maybe only speed runs. If you are on the track and using alot of throttle control you will generate alot of heat. Best to stick to what the pros use. 4s with 1900-2200kv type motors.

Gear down. Smaller pinion.

Rule of thumb for all 1/8e.
  • Hot motor = under geared.
  • Hot esc = over geared.
  • Hot motor + Hot esc = WAY over geared.
  • Warm ESC, Warm motor = happy system.

Sounds like you should be running a mamba monster in a big open field, not an ix8 on the track. The ix8 is more targeted toward racing and running a reasonable/controllable setup. The mamba monster is set up to channel huge power for tire ballooning power. It sounds like you are trying to run a land missile on the track.

If people are running the same motor on 4s at the 15/46 you are talking about, with your existing motor and battery you should probably be running something like a 10T pinion gear.

The best solution would be like someone else said... switch to 4s with that motor or switch to a 1400kv motor with that 6s pack and you will run cooler, have much more controllable power for the track and probably wont be 10 seconds off the pace....

great advice , thank you man :)

i got the ix8 with 2200kv combo on my stock rc8.2e with 4cell battery and 16T gear. the car is not moving and the motor and tceter differential keep making nose. anyone experiance the same?!

hhxhkuroro 11-05-2014 09:14 PM

i maybe over geared but the car is not moving at all. and feels like break is on. when i take the motor from spur it looks a bit normal. my battery is 5000mah 40c

take out your motor, try if it works withtout load (no full throttle though!)
maybe check your settings, if you do not have current("power") limiter set and your ESC just does not allow enough current for the motor, but I doubt this

try whether you cars moves without the motor, eg it rolls freely, wheels spin easily.. if no, check bearings, one non working bearing may pretty much stop your car. if they are ok, check individually the diffs, meaning test each one individually, if it you find one that is stuck, most probably your center diff, if you say it is making noises, you have to look inside.

you can also check your pinion/spur mesh, if too tight, it could potentially block the car.

i used my ix8, current software, in my tekno 410 sct with a 4000kv motor....this combo seemed sluggish and didnt have the power that an rx8 dishes out to the motor.

i am beginning to wonder about the signal from an airtronics m12 not working well with esc, or am i doing something else wrong. i reset the speedo several times with the transmitter, and even regeared two seperate motors and saw no improvement on acceleration.. i even programmed the throttle profile to #5.

anyone else having issues with this esc running 2s 4wd sct?

Some of the 1/8 ESC's don't really like 2s running. I know the Xerun 150A doesn't and I suspect this is the same (have one in my S811GTe on 4s and it's fine)

Knate14 03-18-2015 04:45 PM

So my brother broke a switch some how and my friend lost one. I need two switches for the ix8 i read back some one saying something about a jumper cable it makes sense but is the switch connection on the esc a jst? Then I could make a pretty cool one.

I honestly rather just replace them with originals if any of you guys know a part #?
I can't find one anywhere.

For all of you elec guys with ix8 experience.

I am a nitro guy but I'm giving e-buggy a shot (or so I thought). I will first list the set up I'm running so there are not any questions on that later.

All items are brand new:
MBX7R Eco
Savox 1258
LRP Dynamic 2000KV
LRP ix8
5000 50C 4s
Airtronics MT4 (used / works perfect)

I'm having a serious issue with the ix8. On the very first run it just shut off at wide open throttle. I first thought it was the battery since the ESC went into voltage cut-off mode. I checked the battery and its charged as well as balanced. When it falls into "safe or low voltage mode" I can turn off the ESC and turn it right back on and it's fine until wide open throttle. I turned down the EPA to 50% and no problems. Anything above 50% it just shuts down into safe mode. I'm nearly at the point of tossing it out and just getting a RX8 gen 2. It's frustrating as heck for a brand new $189 ESC to have issues like this. Have any of you had this problem with the ix8? If so, what's the fix?

Thanks.

Whats your lvc on the esc set at? Likely when your running the system at full power the battery voltage is dropping under load, 50c isn't really that high for a pack, so its not going to provide the steady voltage under a heavy load.

I turned voltage cutoff for batteries to none and keep my stop watch running to not over discharge the batteries.

Same problem here. But mine ran 8 packs through it first w no problems
