I would love to but I don't have one. and I'd have to solder up someones motor which I doubt they'd care for.

I'm kind of worried that the esc messed it up. it was acting strange a few weeks ago but I didn't notice what it does now. could be the same issue but I don't know. I'm afraid to smoke a new pcb sensor

mtpocketsracing 12-21-2014 04:45 PM

I recall my tekin RX8 being able to test the sensor anyone know of this is possible with the VTX8?

Riverbluff 12-21-2014 04:48 PM

Had a similar issue with a different brand and it turned out to be a bad sensor board in the motor.

Would like to thank Nick for adding me to the team in 2015. Just placed my first order and am excited for my first race day with them. I will be here to answer questions and provide feedback once I get up to speed. Been with another team for over 4 yrs and am excited for 2015!
Thanks Nick

Good to have you on the Team Boss! I will be going to the big race at Radio active raceway in FEB, will you be attending that race? Good luck to you this 2015 year!

I ran it directly following a Hobbywing 4000kv that I pulled out of my truck and gave to my son. The 4500 is very comparable to the Hobbywing. A little smoother on the bottom end and I thought it felt like it had a bit more on the top end. I was pulling wheelies getting onto the throttle on the straight. I never even got my temp gun out....the motor was barely warm after 5 minutes. For the price I just paid, this motor is an absolute no-brainer.

anymore news?

i have only run mine once so far. However, with the deal they have on them right now they are WELL worth the $70.00 plus some.

I ordered the 4500kv version so will see how it goes, curious to see how it feels for a 540 sized 4 pole motor.

Also picked up the pro-gauge as based on what nikos told me, it has some nice features to check out condition of electronics that could have been handy earlier.

And that pit towel ... nothing takes more seconds off the lap times than the right pit towel ;)

I'm in need of a new 6.5 hopefully vipers new motors will be out soon. Otherwise I'll have to pick up a reedy...

The vf4 4500 is powerful and is a 545 can. I ran the 2 pole 550 xl in my 4x4scts for a while. The vf4 was smoother and more powerful then the 4.5 I had. 4000kv might be the ticket depending on your track. I had to detune my 4500kv.

interesting, didn't know it was a 545 can. looking at specs if it is its just a hair (assuming same point of measurement) over the ROAR 540 limit?

wonder if Nick can confirm if the motor would be legal for ROAR competition, due to say different points of where to measure that Viper did versus ROAR?

the vf4 is a 540 can not a 545.

yeah, be crazy if its basically a 540 sized can but is over ROARs legal limit for a 540 sized can. based on the measurements if they are both doing it the same, its like 0.7mm over.

8.5.4 “05” Size Dimensions:
8.5.4.1 Can:
Overall maximum diameter is 36.02mm measured at whatever point yields the maximum dimension, excluding solder tabs, screw heads or lead wires. Maximum length is 53.00mm measured from the mounting face of the motor to the furthest most point of the end bell, not including solder tabs, lead wires or original manufacturer’s logo or name. Motor mounting holes must be on 1.00- inch (25.40mm) centers.
from vipers site:

Viper VF4 Series

Case Length: 2.07/53.70mm
Case Diameter: 1.41in/36.00mm
Shaft Dimension: 15x5mm
Weight: 6.3oz/180
what is interesting though is if you do a straight conversion of the 2.07 inches value via google to mm, its 52.578mm, assuming that is what that value represents.

RBraswell 12-24-2014 07:55 AM

Maybe I am misinformed but the vf4 I thought was considered a 454 can like the reedy and trinity 4x4 sect motor line. You learn something new everyday :)

Viper VF8.27 broken can!

Hi,
i've been running a VF8.27 motor on a LRP IX8 esc 3 times and I thought it was getting hot fast. Yesterday, at 3rd practice, I noticed a funny sound coming from the car so I checked and... the VF8 can was broken open :weird: ca 0.8 inches from its rear. I just got it from Amain 3 weeks ago, I feel quite sick I must say ... The track is hard pack with dust, many turns, a few jumps, I'm running 11/48 (final gr 14.44), 4s, car all checked in perfect condition.
I was concerned about the motor temperature, so I sent a message to the tech team at Viper through their contact form, after my 2nd practice 8 days ago (I received a copy on my email address). I never received any reply .
I saw this problem happened to someone else on this forum: I'd like to know if there's anything I can do about this broken motor? I don't want to misjuge Viper R/C products for that, because I've read very good things about them. I'd rather like to understand what happened and know what to do now! Many thanks to anyone willing to help:nod:
Merry Christmas!
