Having issues with my vtx 10r be. It just randomly shuts completely off. Tends to be bumps and post jumps or even just dropping it on the wheels. Just started today. Nothing is hitting the switch and tried other sensor cables.

Played around with the gearing for a good bit today on my sc10rs w/ 13.5 vst motor. It has good torque, but not enough top speed. It was better though compared to the other gearing I tried from my old setup. Currently, I'm running 84 spur with a 25 pinion. It is a bit faster like I said, but I think it lacks the top end. Would a 27 or 28 pinion be good enough? Temps during that run was between 110-120. More so at 120 beating on it with some boost and turbo timing just to play around with it. Any suggestions just on gearing? Thanks.
@Nikos, it's a good motor and coming along nicely. I like it so far with torque coming out of the corners smoothly as well. Other than that trying to get the top end the way I like is the only thing I think is lacking. |
If you're only 120 you could get away with a 27 maybe 28. You might try an 82 or 80 spur.

I generally follow the rule, more motor turns smaller spur. Like 86 or 87 for 8.5 and 72 or 75 for 17.5.

The orange VTX10 and VTX10 Black Edition are similar. The orange VTX10R and VTX10R Black edition are similar. Difference between 10 and 10R series, is that 10R can run lower turn motors - 10 series is limited to 7.5. Yes all will come with pigtail style capacitors. You can still purchase the surface mount capacitor for the orange series if you like, but we recommend the pigtail design.
Will you be stocking the HV xpert servos? |
Update: So went to Warehouse 3 today to shake down the car. Overall it went pretty smooth. The only thing was the getting the gearing down. I was still at the 84 spur with 25 pinion. Couldn't clear the triple up there no matter how much speed I carried through. Alright, so fast forward I ended up snapping the ball cup that attaches to the rear brace. So a few hours later and some spur and pinions, I found the setup that worked just like how my Trinity D 3.5 maxzilla was setup. Absolutely phenomenal. Really, holy $h#t it's fast. Was just beating the hell out of the car in the col de sac and really seeing what the motor can do. It has the torque, but now has the top end I'm looking for. After 10 minutes of constant full throttle driving the temps were only at 120 degrees.

Where did your gearing end up?

Yeah, the torque will always be there. It's about trying to find the right max gearing.

After looking at last year's Cactus layout. I'm wondering what you viper veterans think of this straightway.

Just a quick note on a Copperhead R issue and resolution. My son's truck started cogging, mildly at first but steadily worsening over the course of several runs. Eventually just went to stuttering with no movement and overheating. After checking battery voltage, driveline resistant and esc settings I checked the esc connectors. One of them was spinning almost free in the socket. Took it out and the mesh used to make contact was completely degraded. Dug another connector out of the box, soldered it on and problem solved. As has been said here many times, check your connectors any time you are having an intermittent electrical problem.

Yep, very good point.
