well for 2wd buggy mod I'm a fan of profile 2 in mod with just adjust brakes to my liking. If bite is low, then I lower punch down some. If it's higher, then I raise it some. By default it's at 60% for profile 2.

For 2wd buggy 17.5 blinky, I run profile 1. PWM around 5000, punch 100%, motor timing is different for every motor but my sweet spot with the stock rotor seems to be 45 deg geared around a 5.2 FDR. (34/69 on B4.2)

I have tested the 12.8 rotor and it wasn't for me. I think it may be decent in a truck, but I can't hang enough gear on it in a buggy. I was at 40/69 and still only 80 deg coming off the track.

I have a 12.3 rotor to test but I haven't run it yet. I switched tracks and it was simply too big to run 17.5.

hope this gives you a better idea of the settings that I run. Let me know if you have questions, and make sure you PM me with vehicle, esc, and motor and I'll do what I can

do you have a punch control in the vtx8 esc ? right

Here's my 17.5 and 8.5 setups for my B4.2

anyone have noise coming from there motor under braking? i have the viper 7.5 in my b4.2 and it makes this whining noise under braking?

OMG23RC 03-29-2013 03:39 PM

That normal for all sensored motors when braking

can anybody tell me how big a of a difference going from the stock 12.5mm rotor to a 12.8mm rotor is for blinky 17.5 SCT?

So I took my new Slash LCG with new Viper VTX8 and Tekin Pro 4 to the track.

The VTX8 was constantly rebooting itself. I dont think i completed a single lap without it rebooting itself.

I am running a Savox 1258TG sevo. Running profile 3. Left bec at 6.0v standard.

The track owner let me try a Capacitor/Glitch buster that I plugged into my RX and the viper no longer rebooted I ran an entire pack with no issue.

what is going on here? Side note, I run the same servo in a VTX10R and a Copperhead and never had any issue like this. Actually the VTX10R used to reboot constantly too for the first day never changed anything and it magically stopped and never did it again. Really don't get it.

Is the VTX8 linear BEC or switching? Linear BEC's always seem problematic.

Just looking for ideas. I will see if I can try a Hi-Tech servo and see if it goes away. as I refuse to run extra bullcrap ( glitch busters..etc )

DustinH 03-30-2013 04:38 PM

You need to run a glitch buster with a Savox servo. That's what I do in both mine.

OMG23RC 03-30-2013 04:40 PM

My vtx10 B.E doesn't need any glitch buster with a savox 1258 in sct and 1257 in 2wd buggy. But even if you do, how bad could it be?

Thats BS. I don't run one in ANY of my other ESC's...that cost half what the VTX8 costs.

Hey I just purchased the copperhead 550 4500kv 4-pole system last night.
Just ran it in my SC10 4wd earlier today and couldnt be happier. Next products
im trying from the Viper name since I have the two sensorless systems is the
Sensored motors. I wanna thank Viper for supporting me because I have
recieved e-mails from them about the 3900kv system I sent in and I have replied to them.
So anyone that says they have poor customer service is wrong. I only have to wait
7-10 days til I get my brushless system back. But they did tell me to be patient because they have HIGH RMA right now. That I can understand.

I'm loving my vipers (2x vtx10 B.E )and I'm really not dissing the company but ever since the VTX8 was realeased there are all these stories about them either being smoked or not working properly. Again not trying to diss the company, since I would never go to a different company besides viper, but I think there needs to be a lot sorted out with these vtx8's

not true. I know for a fact Fred Perkins runs the VTX with Savox servos and has no problems. He has used this with both the 4PK and M12 radios.

Oh and he isn't even using a Black Edition version, so if your theory was right, he would have problems before any BE would.

I can't tell you exact numbers, because every single motor and rotor is different. But you should expect to lose RPM and gain torque. When I tested this in 2wd buggy, I couldn't throw a big enough pinion on it to make it worth it. I was at 40/69. In an SCT or Touring car I could see this being more feasible.

I would say once you make the change, go up 2 teeth and check temps and performance. treat it just like you would any other motor that you are running for the first time, because in essence, it is a new motor.

okay, my local hobby shop told me that his rep has 1 in stock, so I went ahead and had him order it. I ran 7.3:1 with the motor at ~40* static, it was in my 22sct, motor came off after about 20 minutes at 165~175.
I am trying out 7.1:1 with the motor at 35*, trying to get a little more top end, and keep the low strong.
my track is a little tight, and the 12.8 may help a bit on the low.
