set timing to 45 deg
set throttle PWM to about 5000
I feel that depending on the layout, you can probably go to 36 tooth pinion. Just make sure you turn off the motor temp cutoff and measure outside temps. Keep it under 150 when you measure on the outside of the motor.

Make sure your car does not push at all. I have a push in my car and it's killing my speed because I carry less through the corners. I didn't notice how much I pushed until I watched video of my car.

You can see my car here in this video. This is 34/69. I drove pretty sloppy and ended up losing alot of time because I wasn't carrying corner speed.

From what I've read, Progauge can adjust most features and settings, but to update firmware and access all settings i need to use my pc.

My question is can i attach my pc through Progauge? Or do i need the PC link and Progauge to make adjustments at the track and update via my pc?

only the pclink can update firmware, but you can also use a pc to adjust the esc settings. The prog gauge is for track side adjustments only. and you do not need both for the firmware, just the pclink.

I'm getting ready to get one of these trucks and was curious how you like the viper setup in compared to the 4 pole stuff?

I've ran the tekin pro 4600 RX8 combo, then the copperhead, and lastly the 4.5 XL 550 can. This will be the first time with the VTX8 but I previously ran a VTX10R with this motor last year. I've found the 4.5XL 550 can to have just as much power as the tekin pro motors but have found the viper to be much smoother, with the progauge you can change the parameters in my opinion to suit any type of driving style not to mention the ease of making changes trackside. It's by far my favorite combo

This is correct. Think of it this way. The PC Link turns your Computer into a Progauge with the added ability to update firmware as well as add some tools like copying profiles and stuff like that.

The only time you NEED the PC Link, is for the firmware.

I've never had any heat issues in 4wd sct and I drive pretty hard.

I also never had issues with it over heating. I've hit lipo cut before the speedo thermos. You'll be good to go!

I had 2 guys that run tekin run both of my Short Course trucks with Vipers in and that is what they said. Very smooth... They run cool also. I'm running 3 vehicles with Vip's in. Ten-SCTE has VTX8 and Viper 550 5.5, 22SCT and 22B has Viper VTX10-BE and Viper 17.5's. These are run very hard!!!

Thanks to the drivers who were helping out answering questions while I was away at Snowbirds doing the on-road thing. If you get a chance check out the recap in the On-Road section's Viper forum. its a little to big to copy over here.

Now we are looking at Motorama as our next big event, can't wait, should be be great and we will have VTX8's there for anyone who hasn't taken the plunge and would like to get one -- may even work out a good price for you ;) !

We got some good testing done at snowbirds, looking at some things for the future, can't wait to work on event more!!!

I have the 5150 copperhead system and have been running a 14t pinion on a large in-door track. In the 5 min Q's it has been running around 140 dregs and in the 10 min main it got up to 160. This weekend I in the 10 min i used a 13t pinion and it stayed down around 145.

It has tons of power and so far has been pretty smooth(one small glitch). I'm very impressed with Vipor after two weeks. I going to look into a 21.5 for my usgt touring car for the summer.

Nice, so I take it you are running it in a Losi? I just pulled a system out of a old Jammin to rum in a MIP Losi I just ordered.

Yes it is in my Losi SCTE. I don't have a fan on the motor yet.

ya I'm just doing it because I know the Losi is a lot heaver then the Jammin and I want to gear it up:D It never got over 150 after 8 minute main in Jammin with NO fan.

Hi guys, did you test the vtx8 with thunderpower motors at all? They are unusual as they have endbell timing adjustment and I had another companies esc have problems with it?

Just wondering as I need a spare motor and will get another brand to backup if you are unsure on TP?

Also, can the motor direction on the vtx8 be changed through the progauge, or only the of link?
