Trevor - you may want to try running default 30* motor timing and gearing up one or two teeth. Our motors are very torquey and lower motor timing increases the torque even more, allowing it to pull a very tall gear Let us know what works best!

i should be getting my vtrax10 in to pair with a 13.5 and an 8.5 in my 2wd buggy

bumping from the 13.5 class to expert mod after just one 7 race series were i am sitting in 2nd in points.. dont think i have a chance at winning unless the leader in points misses the last race.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well, a LOT more gear and when I do re-gear and find my "sweet-spot" I will go back to 30° of timing on the external ring and work with the setup from there......I cant wait to pair this VST with a Vtrax10

So, what is it with the whole timing thing anyway? I bought a 17.5 and have it hooked up to the traxxas esc... How does the whole timing thing work? I have been wanted to mess with it, just don't wanna mess it all up...

It can get very technical and deep to fully explain/understand how it works, there are a lot of factors and variables involved, due to my lack of knowledge at that level I cant go greek with it, LOL....I am still learning myself everyday.....An easy way for me to sum it up in a few words would be this:

Adjusting the external motor timing will have a very noticable increase in performance. Dont be afraid to experiment with it

Typically:
More timing - More rpms, less torque.
Less timing - Less rpms, more torque.

Keep an eye on temps and find the right gearing setup to achieve maximum power and efficiency for your layout(remember to keep track/make logs of where you're geared at so you can cross reference to your changes and compare to find the sweet-spot that feels good to you and is efficient) I generally try to gear where I can clear the largest obstacles, and have strong, yet very managable torque to get me around all of the technical sections on our current layout. 90% of our current layout is very technical where a lot of top-end is not needed.

If you're running a large outdoor layout try going up a tooth, these ratios are from an average size indoor track.

Whoa whoa! Unless you're running on a 1/8 onroad track don't think you're going to want to run a 75t spur.

Ok thanks! That's what I had but the temps were higher than everyone else has reported. There was alot of traction last night and my throttle finger might have been a little heavy to.

Yeah traction always plays a huge factor in component temps, plus when you have lots of bite you can rip on it hard. As long as you're coming off below 140* you're fine. If it's much higher than that then I expect some part of your setup (gearing...) needs to be improved. As far as protecting the motor I just like to make sure they stay below 180* on a run to run basis. It's near impossible to reach that temp in an offroad car though.

Ran my FS2 powered by a 13.5 Viper last night in the 4wd Mod class at the Jakes RC Pro/AM in Topeka, KS. First night out with the FS2. Everyone in mod was running a 6.5 or 7.5... not me. 13.5-qualified 6th in the A and ended up placing 6th. Not bad when the top 3 are full on pro's....


Another great race weekend with the VTrax/VST setup.
