i take that back lol they are both TG servos...
so i dont know what Monty is talking about?

the key is in the gears?

why pick up an hv servo if you are not going to use it on lipo...
pick up a 7955 for throttle and steering if you are running 6v.

well i wanted the HV servo 7940 because it is so fast. Even with 6v.
te 7955 is as slow as the 7950.

So I would like to know what the good reason is that houston talked about.

unless you are mayfield,drake,lutz,cav,tebo,truhe you are not going to tell .08 from .12

both servos are very fast...

i run my cs-170 on lipo (un regulated) and its insane but still i am not going to tell the difference unless its like a 5645 up next a 7955 witch is like .20 next to .12

yep

they are both good servos , the 7950 will last longer

I have been running the 7940's and 50's since the first batch to hit the Hitec warehouse I have easily 8 -10 gallons on them with no problems.

so your gearset on your 7940 is not notchy?

seen quite a few of them like that , even the uber fast guys' servos

But seriously , I have seen many of the 7940 servos gearsets become notchy very quickly , I would chock it up to the insane amount of torque the motor will hold and the very tall gearing that puts a lot of stress on the gears themselves .

Still a badass fast servo and I am not trying to dis on them , just telling you that the 7950 would be a better choice for an 8th scale vehicle , that's all .

I canīt find a Gear Set for the 7940 and the 7950.
Does anybody know where to buy them?

@Frank L and PUDDIN: Do you use the 7940 for steering or throttle?

From Neo-buggy for what it's worth

After sampling the delights that Italy have to offer, having attended the Novarossi race, Adam Drake has been in contact announcing his deal with Hitec to run their servos. The 2x ROAR national champion was clearly v.pleased with the performance of the servos, reporting testing went very well - particularly impressed with the precision and durability. He will use the 7940 servo in buggy and 7950 in truggy.

Hitec never seemed to sell the Ti gear's separately....im sure if you call them up they'll figure something out.....prior to tho the 5955/7955 gear's set's just Don't fail.

Drake and Truhe switched for the fact the JR HV's were failing them and causing repeated DNF's....at their level that kind of stuff wont fly i cant tell you that.

I switched to the 7940 after wearing out gears in other servos. I had a 7940 throttle servo strip gears in my losi buggy on its second day, It never had a chance to feel "notchy". The gears stripped on my 7940 steering servo on my hyper 9 after about 7 race days and felt "notchy" after 4.

i am sure there will be more posts like this sooner or later .

heck , even adams servo felt notchy at the nitro cross world championships at the nitro pit in whittman, AZ


hitec is still the best there is , period!!!

most other high speed servos probably fail because there motors wont handle the extreme load that is transfered to the motors from the tall gearing used to make a high speed servo a high speed servo
