Curious, how/why do you use all the "extra" buttons and switches on your radio?
I honestly just use my throttle and steering. No trim buttons or assignable buttons. With racing 2WD buggy on carpet, should I be using these? Why and how so?
Thanks!

Should you? No, not necessarily. Could you? Yes. It depends on a) what your radio can do and b) your personal preference.
What you could do (besides steering trim after a whack) is: e.g. quick-adjust brake D/R, quick-adjust steering D/R, activate/arm a timer... Nothing really essential, but convenient sometimes.

The racing radios we are using arent just made on/off road racers. People with crawlers, bashers, scaled offroad vehicles etc will use these radios as well and the extra channel/buttons allows the user to do a lot more with their rig like rear wheel steering, winching, high/low range gear box, reverse gear, diff locking, turning on and off lights, gyros, channel mixing etc etc.
You should also be using the extra buttons on your radio as well. most importantly the trimming and dual rates for both steering and throttle to find tune your car and driving. Assigning one button to activate a countdown timer to let you know your practice run time is up to prevent over draining your batteries is also a good idea.

I race mostly 1/8 nowadays and don't seem to have this problem as much as 1/10 cars, but after a hard wall tap you can lose your steering trim and having buttons to adjust your trim with your right index finger while going down the straight is a necessity.
Not uncommon to adjust throttle speed and/or steering speed with left thumb if track conditions change during a race.
I no longer run KO Propo but I experimented with their integrated gyro and was able to adjust the gain while driving to get a significant advantage on an outdoor loose pack track, this is considered cheating at many clubs and is a violation at any ROAR sanctioned event. I forget the name of the pro that was caught doing this around 10 years ago but I had to see for myself how much of an advantage it was and it didn't help any on high grip , but anytime you're drifting through a corner the gyro simply adds traction through the corner.

Alexander Hagberg has a few good youtubes of Sanwa radios.
You can set presets for race modes that you can select at the touch of the button to change the feel to accommodate, say a peaky battery at the beginning of the race. Buttons can be assigned for specific changes and increments - expo, trim, trigger curves etc, and sets of changes through mode selections.
I've changed a lot in settings but haven't got into presets. Not a reason I haven't. Before a race I might set something through settings when I could do it easier and quicker through a preset. Just haven't got into it.
