the new case makes you hit the pipe less

True, but hey, most people have no idea. Although you think it is the same in a different case there is a possibillity it is a re-designed electronic circuit, There is a market shortage of electronic chips and I know companies who did change products for the use of different chips and other components so there is a slight chance this is also such an action.

But there are enough people who start a season with new equipment, I even see racers getting new transponders every year while that also does not provide better laptimes..

Typically when you see a manufacturer replace a model with a new one that has basically the same features its because they have found a way to build it more profitably. Sometimes that means just being cheaper to build other times its about fixing things that cause more warranty repairs or more QA failures on the line.

The new chargers are basically half the weight of the previous 308 and 406. For guys that travel that is drastic.

The DX6 is not due out for another 2-3 Months. The DX8 I'll have in two weeks.

What is the max discharge without a bank?

45 watts per channel or 70 watts with the channels combined. Almost half what the current 308 DUO is capable of. This is where the weight savings come from - less resistor and heatsink.

if i recall the 410 was 10amps so i don't think it would be any more than 10amps

It's much less than that. Roughly 5A for a 2S pack.

whats the most you can charge at and discharge at.

That's pretty much been answered already. 30A, but you need an external discharge bank to get that high. Internally, it'll do 45W (~5A on 2S).

Ugh I guess I will stay with my 308/406's.

If you look at most of the use cases for the DUO chargers (at least in RC car racing), you would probably see that most times they are used with a discharge bank. I'm sure Junsi recognizes this. They can save money with fewer/smaller components (more profit as the new chargers are more expensive) and save some weight too. I'm quite happy with the new design. My 406 DUO looks like something Nintendo designed in the 80's. If the software and menu structure are the same as the current DUO models, that's a huge let down.

I have never seen a discharge bank at my track... But there are a ton of 308/406/4010's.

Does anyone discharge using the internal discharge capability or does everyone just top off between rounds? I don't use one either, but my 406 DUO will discharge my 1s packs at 20+ amps.
