I tried searching but can't find the answer I was looking for... probably cause it's a dumb-ass question....(and been out of this for a while...)
Can I use a HV steering servo with a old Tekin RS Pro ESC? or will I need to add a BEC? The servo I'm looking at is a Savox SB-2265MG. Is there a voltage setting I need to set thru Hotwire? I want to use 7.4V, I will also be using a Sanwa RX-482 receiver if that matters.

yes you will need to set bec thru hotwire.. all else is safe at 7.4v

OK, just looked up the manual and it's only 6v @ 3amp...…( I did mention it's old!) so that tells me I'll need a new ESC... yea! buy more stuff!! :-)

The servo will work correctly on the 6V, only a tiny bit slower.

Here the red wire is connected to the balancer plug but you can solder it directly on the battery + wire.

Thanks for the option Roelof, but doesn’t that leave the servo from any type of protection?? or do they usually have some type if internal overload? I do have a CC bec i guess i could use from my crawler. I’m getting older and starting to like the plug n play method lately. The only Hotwire i want to use is Tekin’s, lol.

What kind of a protection do you expect and from what? A BEC is no protection for a servo

I guess your right, I always used BEC's to get more current to the servo since the ESC was only allowing a max of 3-4A. Good point, thanks Roelof!. Do you think a 2S HV pack would fry a servo at 8.7V?

Athough some people think 7.4v is the limit it is not.
The 7.4v notation is because the normal specified voltage of a 2S battery is 7.4v so it will work with 8.4v. 8.7 is just a fraction more.

If your BEC is limited to 6V and you still want to run the servo on 8.4V, then you can pull the HV from the balance wire like this:
