Too much juice?

I've just started having problems with my electronics where when I turn on my esc the receiver won't bind unless I turn the esc back off and on again? This just started happening after switching to a newer 3 wire transponder (also running a fan). The rest of the system consists of a Spektrum DX3r with 3100 receiver and Tekin rs pro esc (gen1).

BEC i think is rated at 3 amps on that esc so i doubt you have a power issue on that end. Guessing you didn't have a bind issue before and you have unplugged the new transponder and or fan to see if any combination changes the way the radio binds.
Is this on a TRUGGY or something where you have alot of servo load?
Otherwise might just be black magic.

I run a dx2/sr3100 glitch buster Tekin rsx and have this problem as well but hasn’t done it after I took radio apart and replaced antenna wire with a replacement wire cause I was
Also having range issues now I can go as far as I can see and so far there hasn’t been a bind issue

if this works and there are no other ports to use then I would consider using a Y-harness to draw power or splice solder your PT, I've spliced my motor fan with my PT in my system.

This is 1/10 scale blinky B64. I'll try removing it from the bind port, but then have the issue of where do I plug it? It's a fairly old receiver with only 4 ports, bind/str/thr/aux....and there's 4 things to plug in!!!

never missed a lap count... on my Rx the 4th port is reserved for telemetry so I can't draw power from it for the fan nor PT which is why I spliced both the fan and PT together into Ch3 slot. The only limit you will have is dependent on the strength of the BEC on your ESC, most modern ESC's will do fine and not need any capacitors (glitch busters) added. If you are running an older Castle ESC then, yeah, they are known for having weak BEC's and will need a glitch buster added.

I recently had a similar problem in my son's car. The 3 wire transponder seemed to have a low enough resistance that it caused the receiver to go into bind mode.
If the transponder was unplugged while the esc was off, and then plugged back in after powering up the esc there was no issue. I had to move the transponder from the bind slot to a different input slot.
