the compression feels kinda tight but the flywheel is able to be turned around
it was running a bit on the leaner side so i guess there was no lubricating happening.. what should i do ? replace piston/sleeve ? engine has had about 2 gallons

If you see scratches on the piston, you're not cleaning your air filter... Dirt is what scratches the piston... It sounds to me that you've been running your motor to lean for to long and now your motors compression is gone... OS. has a 2 year warrenty on it's motors... They will correct any problems that's there's fault... End users that damage or miss use there products ie. over leaning a motor, continue to run the engine that is out of tune and not cleaning/changing to a fresh air filter are kinda on there own... Not trying to bash you... It just seems that you didn't take good care of $200.00 dollar investment. You can always give OS a call or email them... Good luck

that was a brand new and oiled air filter
i take great care of my engine always monitoring temps and glow plug condition

2 weekends ago it was one of the qucikest cars on the track and still running on the richer side. im pretty sure these tuning problems are coming from the small hole in the boittom of the pipe, i did have this hole kinda sealed however there was still heaps of oil residue around the hole

oil percentage ??

what oil blend do you guys recommend for this engine ?

currently i was using 16%nitro with 8% oil (4%syn 4%cast)

i was thinking of going up to a 10/12% oil based

Thanks
John

mgrsr,

If you have a clean air filter on and there is no debris in your engine, then don't worry about the scratches. I have some around my piston also.

Your problem could be due to the hole in your pipe. Affects your idling and tuning.
I also suffered a similar problem with my TZ a couple of months back. The inner bearing was worn and there was too much freeplay. Crank was rubbing the case. Leaned it quite a bit but engine was still sluggish. And it would cut off randomly on the track. There's also a rattling noise at idle. If you face these symptoms, maybe your inner bearing is gone too...

I bought my 1040 (header + pipe) at rc-toro. I think with shipping it is only $95. I also had skyline vr12, but i like 1040 better. In general, it is better to use engine and pipe from the same company.

Could someone outline the best method for finding air leaks in engine/fuel line/tank. My TZ is running very hot even though its running under rich settings, i know there are many factors which would contribute to high running temps however I think an air leak is the most probable cause in this case.

I am using p6 plug with 15% nitro and 15% synthetic/castor mix.

FIRST OF ALL WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER HOT? TO CHECK YOUR FUEL SYSTEM FOR LEAKS TAKE OUT TANK AND FUEL TUBING PUT TANK UNDER WATER BUT KEEP VENT AND FEED SIDE ENDS OF TUBING OUT OF WATER SQUEZE CLOSED VENT END AND BLOW INTO OTHER IF YOU HAVE LEAK YOU WILL SEE BUBBLES COME OUT .AS FOR THE ENGINE IT IS MUCH EASIER TO JUST SEAL ENGINE I SEAL ALL MY MOTORS EVEN WHEN THEY ARE NEW.

Caggers a couple of things.

1. do what MANINTHEMUGEN has sugested. (man that is a long name :)

2. you might want to think about going to 20% as it will run a little cooler.

3. Some times running too rich will cause an engine to run too hot as well.

Another fast way to check for an air leak is to remove the air filter whilst the engine is idling and cover the air inlet with your finger.......if the engine doesnt die instantly theres an air leak somewhere.

Thanks for the help.

bearing

has anybody tried finding a ceramic rear case bearing for the os ? any luck? :)

Give this link a try... You should be able to find them and order them as well... http://www.bocabearings.com/main1.as...earchkit&cat=2

Front and rear bearings for about $75.00

Hi I was just wondering after how many Litres of fuel do you guys use after experiencing bearing leaks.

also did you guys use after run oil?

thanks in advance :)
