you guys didn't notice the TR 12 E-spec for sale in the sale forum? I did- and I bought it!!! LOL It's new with instuctions and air filter but no box cause it came with a new car.
The E-spec is the same as the R-spec it's just called E-spec because of the european EFRA (E-spec) as opposed to our ROAR (R-spec). It will be ont he way to get modded to out perform the Italian motors in just a few days...hehehe:D |

Hello from France,
for bigdog: If you're lucky, the E-spec you receive comes with the new Machined piston and the new sleeve that isn't sale in the US version |
R-Spec....E-Spec.....so many Specs!
hard to keep up with it all. All I want to know is "is it fast" and "does it tune like a typical OS engine". |
I guess we will find that out soon.

See you at the track RC_Alan i will be at cp in the afternoon this saturday, guess i have to meet you next saturday. but if you need the car back, i can swing by cp on sunday. i have another g4 i can play with. btw, i clean up your engine a little bit, hope you don't mind. data |
R-Spec
Man, the things are already out of stock at Tower! I guess I'll have to wait till they get the next batch in to get mine.
Considering Towerhobbies/GreatPlanes is THE only place in the states to order OS engines, one would think that there would have been more of them to go around. O'well....next batch I guess, I just hope they come in soon. |
Thanks Data!!! :D I can wait til next Saturday when the car is ready... Did you keep it stock or did you try the Mugen steering system in the G4??? You know how fast my Top TS3 was... Well, I pinch the sleeve to much becasue of lost compression and now the piston and sleeve is no good... Over pinched... I got bad advice while doing the pinch... I had to fork out and got an RB v-12... Really... And I mean I really didn't have the money for a new motor either... You know, I'm not happy... I'll be breaking in that motor Friday afternoon and Saturday morning... When I'm through with it... It'll be faster then the TS3.. That top was still new... I tried every hobby shop for a piston and sleeve... Speed Tech, Elite, Micro RC and Ultimate hobbies for a piston and sleeve for that Top motor... I would have even brought a MR-12 piston and sleeve.. All the shops are out of them for the next couple of weeks.... Even a used MR-12 piston and sleeve would have worked... I have a sleeve pincher now... I just have to pinch my sleeve correctly for now on... Thanks again Data... I trust your work and appreciate all your help!!! You touched up the Rossi Pixy too... Man you're great!!! How can I repay you Data?? I know that steering work on that G4 is not easy...Let me know and I'll see you at the track. Sorry guys... I know this is OS motor thread... :sneaky:

so what engine did big dog get? was it a mistake? where did you get it dog? is that what you got when you ordered from tower? hm a lot of Q's....
|
Tally- I got it from a fellow in Cali. I'm assuming he bought the car w/new motor from someone in Europe or someone that got the motor from Europe. I didn't ask. He postsed it here on rctech for sale thread. I'm friends with Ron Atomic who is sponsored by OS. He's been running the R-spec for a couple months now. He and his motor tuner have been working on the cranks pretty intensely trying to find the perfect "grind". Ron has run at almost every big nitro race lately with his Kyosho and nobody really has anything for him on HP. He was telling me when they were at Revelation he would pull Barry a little entering the straight but Barry would make up the difference by the end. The R-spec has a ton of low end torque which would explain that...
I'll let you know more when I get it. Although, it's headed straight to Ron for modding. I'm not sure is Ron's motor guy wants to do motors for other people but if anybody wants I'll ask. |
any word on how it runs stock without mods?
|
Data I won't be in crystal tommorow, sorry. So that means I will mostly come next Saturday, I might have the motor next Saturday.
|
I saw Ron Atomic's car at Revelation Raceway. The motor really caught my eye so I am picking one up to try. I have a friend who is also running the 5 port engine with a 3 port modified sleeve and it is just as fast as a novarossi. From what Ron told me the R-spec is just the better carb(from the 5-port), turbo button and revised crank timing.
|
nevermind then. i don't want to have to mod it

Does it have the black crank case? or all silver? There is so little detail on this engine even though it is already out. The OS product manager, whoever it is, needs to work harder to push their products. ;) Anyone who already has it or will have it soon, please take it apart and show us some pics. |
STi- most of your questions are answered already in this post.
The R-spec is a 3 port turbo -- this means it has a turbo button and takes a turbo plug. The R spec is pictured below it has an oversized silver cooling head and black case. |
I don't get it, tower charged my credit card on the 15th and said it takes 2 days to ship it out, and you can't include weekends because the shipping company works on weekdays. Well today is the 3rd day. 15th, 16th, and 19th, that's 3 days. It looks like i'll get my credit card statement before the engine itself. BTW, when they ship it out they tell you, so far they are saying it's being packed. wow, I got the car like a week after finishing my education and in august i'll get my engine. so 2/3 of the summer is looking at the car instead of driving it:rolleyes:

I'm confused to what the engine will look like because of the following statement: Originally posted by gijoe64 Wate for the US version. because in Europe their spec are different from our's. Plus you will not have the black crankcase and I think it comes with the sliver Hyper head. ;) Funny thing, is according to some Europeans, the E-Spec is only rated at 1.15ps. :weird: Basically, I want an engine to replace my RB X-12T 5-port. The car will be run on a mid-size track, and I'm deciding between the TR-T 5-port and the slightly more expensive TR-R. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. |
compaq, I'm in the same boat as you. Mines still says at hte warehouse and my cc was charged on the 15th too.

I bought my fw05 in january here in japan, it came with the e-spec engine, shimo chassis and carbon deck. 43000 yen since im fairly new to rc i had some guys here at the track help with my tuning. I also have the tr turbo as well. between the two engines the e-spec has more top end and the punch coming out of corners is noticably stronger (too much at times). Its still a little short on top end but the novarossi's cant blow by me on the back stretch like with the regular tr.

Results from comparing different engines on different cars are sometimes misleading. Thanks for your input though. |
the owner of the hobby shop is the one who told me it was the e spec motor when i was getting the kit. I was torn between the different kit options and this was the best buy. I picked up the tr from a friend here in the military who decided he was sticking with off-road buggies for some kanai parts. had about a half gallon on it. ran it on my 05 a couple times and put it back in the box for a back up
|
Thanks for the info, nippon.
Does anyone know exactly what's different between the E-Spec and R-Spec? With so very little info from OS, I'm having a hard time deciding between these two and the TR-T. :( |
I emailed OS to find out when they will update their site to include the specs for the R-spec and they said it will be coming soon. They also gave me these specs as the 'official' specs of the engine as tested by OS.
The 12TR R-Spec engine is being released to U.S. dealers in August. The web page for it will be online in a few days. Here are the power, rpm and other specs: Stock Number: OSMG2007 Displacement: 0.129 cu in (2.11cc) Bore: 0.551 in (14.0mm) Stroke: 0.539 in (13.7mm) Practical rpm range: 4000-38,000 Output: 1.3 ps @ 30,000 rpm Weight: 7.7 oz (218.3g) Webmaster, osengines.com |

Basically the crank rules are different from one model to the other, beeing the E-Spec model more restricted than the R-Spec. AFM |

Hmmm. |

I wont lie, I'm not only hooked on the specs, I'm also hooked on that silver head! So it'll defintely be the R-spec for me!
Besides, after all the different discounts and/or coupon codes that Tower offers, the engine wont be much more than $159-$169, which aint bad at all. |
Tower Hobbies stikes again!!!!
For all of you who had your CC charged by Tower Hobbies on the 15th, you better call and have them credit your card.
I called them today and sure enough, the r-spec isn't in and won't be in until late august. However, instead of crediting my credit card, they were just going to have a credit on my account. I DON'T THINK SO!!! I had them credit my credit card until it actually arrives. |
After emailing the OS people, I don't think that Tower was ever really supposed to list that engine as "IN STOCK". The email I got from OS said that the engine wasn't even going to be released to US shops until late August.
So what was Tower doing with its listing? |
I canceled my order for the R-spec because in 2 weeks I received 3 different promise dates 7/15, 7/30 now 8/31. So instead, I bought an RB V12 Turbo that I am sure will outperform the OS in every aspect, except $$$.

This is what I got from my sources in Europe..........
AFM O.S. Engines .12 TR R (E) -Spec Competition Engine New from O.S. Engines is the .12 TR R (E) -Spec engine. This engine is specially configured to take advantage of the new ROAR and EFRA racing rules and to make as much power as possible. This engine features a new Hyper cylinder head that uses turbo-style glow plugs, which became legal for racing in the small-block classes for EFRA, IFMAR, and ROAR recently. An O.S. 11A slide carb. is installed, which is a competition-bred three-needle unit, optimized for maximum airflow. Three transfer ports feed the cylinder, which is important because racing rules don't allow for more than three ports. The R (E) -Spec features genuine ABC construction, but for 2004, OS made a major improvement by replacing the old molded piston, by a superior grade high-silicone aluminum, machined / lightened piston, and a new sleeve with touring car timings. Always lots of torque and now nearly same RPM as Italian engines, OS reliable, easy to tune, and no over heating. A hot O.S. T-P6 turbo glow plug is included in the package. Here are the power, rpm and other specs: Stock Number: OSMG2007 Displacement: 2.11cc Bore: 14.0mm Stroke: 13.7mm Practical rpm range: 4,000-38,000 Output: 1.5 ps @ 31,000 rpm Weight: 218.3g E-Spec, is made to conform EFRA rules, and what this means, is that the difference is on the crank: “The crank hole shall have a max. dia. of 7.00mm at its end. The hole my be finished with a continuous unbroken chamfer with a max. width of 0.50mm if this is required for manufacturing purposes at the crank web end.” R-Spec, is made to conform ROAR rules, and I would add it also conforms to IFMAR rules, were there is no restriction on crank hole size, or chamfer size at the end of hole, so flute on the turbo crank face may integrate into hole…….so it means MORE POWER….. |
If the R-Specs are arriving late August, I can't wait for it. I suppose I have to choose either the E-Spec or the TR-T 5-port.
I'm not sure about the crank differences between the two, but I sure like the fact that the E-Spec utilizes machined pistons and more aggressive timing. |
