Cleaning the OS 12 TR

Just got the engine but it accidently fell in a bucked of sand. How do you fully clean this engine out? Really don't want to take it apart. Can we just pour some liquid through it and thoroughly clean it that way?

Johnnytc3 06-28-2004 03:55 PM

 Bucket of sand?? lol

I would just spray it out with wd 40 really good. Have fun!

revzalot 06-28-2004 08:25 PM

Just accidently tipped it over on the table and landed in the bucket. I was planning to start breaking it in. Talk about bad luck.

gijoe64 06-29-2004 09:03 AM

You will have to take the engine apart to be on the safe side, the .12TR is an easy engine to rebuild. Just use denatured alcohol
and soke the engine, re-oil. Check closely for any sand grauals in the engine.:D

gijoe64 06-29-2004 09:07 AM

Also you will have to pull the bearings. if you have any futher trouble call Hobby Services at 217-398-8970.

Hyper Head

Well I finally got around to installing the Hyper head on my TR-T. I must say it's quite an improvement! I was only able to lean the motor out a few small moves before I ran out of sunlight but I can already see a good improvement with this head.
What would be a good pipe to run with this engine/ head on a NTC3? This car will be mainly for bashing but MIGHT see some track time too....
I've heard the RDL pipe is a good choice but what about the OS? I'm mainly looking for low to mid end power!

S.Stew 07-03-2004 08:42 PM

How much faster is this T-spec realisticly. I need to buy an Engine for nats and im just interested to know.

Hello from France,

The best exhaust I test is the Mielke Inline exhaust.

Mielke exhaust

I test Rd Logics ( Turbo or not ) , but the meilke is better.

tallyrc 07-04-2004 08:11 PM

that is the team crc exhaust right?

Do you have a source for that pipe? I'd like to give it a try. Thanks

romuald31,

What shocks are you using? That looks lia a NTC3 right?

John

SteveG 07-05-2004 08:55 PM

Thats an LD3 in the picture jrabbito....

jrabbito 07-05-2004 09:12 PM

Ahh yes. OFNA is doing quite a good job copying the design....

SteveG 07-06-2004 01:03 AM

Copying the design ?? An LD3 is an LD3 and an NTC3 is an NTC3  Lot's more stuff to adjust on an LD3 and lots more thats done different....it's not like the NTC3 & LD3 parts are interchangable

Back on topic my new 12TR is ready to be broken in :D Only mod so far is the optional OS Speed Hyper Head. I like the TR's, had one in my Reflex for a couple seasons and it pulled that tank around our tight track real well

Here's a pic...

I just ordered one of the OS R-spec motors from my LHS. Based on the promising posts, OS reputation and the fact I did not want to dish-out $250+ I am hoping this is a winner!!!

Since this is my first Nitro I hope we can keep some dialog going for tuning this new motor. BTW, my LHS confirmed the 7/15 arrival of the R-spec. at the distributor (7/18 to me, hopefully).

rodneybarrett 07-14-2004 12:38 PM

Tower Hobbies now has the R-spec listed as "in stock" limited quantities. I ordered on 6/21/04 and my credit card just got authroized today.

Looks like I might have one by end of the week.

gijoe64 07-14-2004 01:22 PM

Yes the R-Spec's are in-stock when you get your's please give a good honest report :).

I think you will like it very much.

No the R-Spec will come only in 3-port Turbo.

Darkseid 07-14-2004 01:35 PM

Hey guys...

I'm really interested in the 12 TR R-Spec. I ran a 12 TR last year but wanted more power this year so I turned to Sirio. It ran well at first, but I've been having multiple problems with it lately. So when I saw this new 12 TR R-Spec in RCCA's Inside Scoop, I thought I would look into it more.

Problem is, I can't find any hp or rpm specs on it. Not in the Inside Scoop listing, not in Towerhobbies listing and not even on OS's website. Anybody got the confirmed HP and RPM stats on this new mill?

I'd love to switch back to OS if they can get me anywhere near my current Sirio's 1.45hp @ 39,000rpm.

Thanks in advance for any info. I'm ready to buy now if the numbers are right!

According to Gijoe64, a couple of pages back he posted.....

Spec: 4,000-36,000 RPM 1.5ps/31,000rpm

AFM

That max rpm doesn't seem to be any higher than what was spec on the standard 12 TR.

So whats the advantage this new R-spec is supposed to bring to the party? More HP?

compaq888 07-15-2004 02:44 AM

where the hell is my engine, I ordered it last month. I called my credit card and tower still hasn't charged it. My RR is collecting dust:flaming:

FFR3582 07-15-2004 06:35 AM

The new R-spec is a ROAR legal 3-port turbo motor.

The old motor is a 5 port and not ROAR legal.

The new motor also has a much bigger and better cooling head than the old TR.

jrabbito 07-15-2004 06:42 AM

compaq888,

Towers site said they would have it mid-month. That was an ETA (Estimated time of arrival). My guess is that you wont see it till 1st week August. By the time they arrive, they receive it, ship it and it arrives....

Ciao,

John

Darkseid 07-15-2004 06:46 AM

Actually, Tower's site now says "in stock" in limited quantities. So if he had one pre-ordered, they should have charged his card and shipped him one. I think thats what he's talking about.

Darkseid 07-15-2004 06:53 AM

I just took the time to read back about 3-4 pages and I'm really impressed about what I'm reading about this engine. The original 12TR I ran last year was nearly perfect for our local track. Perfect on the infield, slightly under powered on the straight.

I think this new R-Spec would make an excellent replacement for the unreliable Sirio I've been running up to this point.

I'll likely be ordering me one soon!

yes, that's what i'm talking about. I pre ordered one a long time ago. I put in more than $50 in mods in the car and still don't have an engine. I pre ordered it late June.

I would give them a call.Tower's customer service is top notch. They'll take care of you.

compaq888 07-15-2004 08:13 AM

I'm sure it will come, i'm just getting bored, because I sit the whole time at the track, instead of driving.
