Hey Chris, I'm clearing some backlog here and reading some old stuff...

I agree with RayJ on the shimming and his numbers. Number and thickness of shims does not automatically result a sure head clearance number especially from one Nova engine to another...

In Thailand early this year, my NovaMax was running with 2 x 0.1 mm copper shims with the supplied 25% Tornado fuel. I used the 7tf plug. That translated to about 0.5 mm head clearance upon measuring and I was getting about 120 degree C during race condition.

Yes, even an engine with same model has different TDC clearance. In this case, I found Novamax is probably the worst because I've experienced over 4 engines (P and S series) each of them is different. 2 engines has 0.05 and others are 0.25-0.3 mm

weeeeeeeeeeeee,
whats up.
True, I experienced the same thing on different Nova' crankcase ( not as bad as daiz24 exp ) but 0.3 or 0.4mm head shim is easy and good to start with for 25 to 30%. But read plug and go as low as possible (within limit) to achieve the best result.
Also exhaust make some difference.
