In theory that does not work. The piston and sleeve are form different materials and you have to do with expansion of both. An engine can have a lot of pinch in cold conditions but the fitting at operating temperature could be just right.

I was talking "when to stop" after the first break in process.

There will be more time needed to reach FULLY break in.

What theory of yours you want to share now ?

Roelof 05-01-2009 10:46 AM

I have no theory to share. I use 1 liter of fuel slowly tuning from rich to lean and after the liter it must be race ready. The only thing I noticed with Novarossi engines is that it can take another 1 to 2 liters that you have to take the time to warm up the engine or else it will stall on the pinch.

Whats the part number for the gasket that goes between the pipe and header?

ToysRUsKid 05-03-2009 07:55 AM

Anyone use the exhaust gas cooler and if so, what results did you get? I want to try it but don't want to spend the money if it's only going to be used for 2 races.

It is the same as on the engine.

I made one and I must say the engine runs more constant, the fact that it should give more runtime I did not notice it.

Well, in theory, since the exhaust gas cooler is somewhat reducing the pressure by having the gases run a larger trail; the runtime is supposed to increase the runtime since the fuel wont be "pushed" that hard into the carburetor. In another matter, it should help improve consistancy as you have stated, because the hot gases wont alter the fuel's temperature to the same extent as without the gas cooler.

This is mere theory, while reality may be other things.

reality for 99% of racers is you will loose more runtime from either:

-poor fuel choice,
-poor engine tune
-poor clutch setting
-wrong plug choice
-short fuel tubing from pipe to tank

I still think it is a gimmick. It might work...for the top guys who have all these things set, but you won't gain anything from it that your oldschool pressure chamber is already doing for you.

Use the team orion pressure system, as this seems to be a better idea to variably change the pressure as the engine/tank needs it, as opposed to just "cooling" the air like the nova system proports to doing.

I don't use exhaust cooler nor pressure tank. Too many connections or gadgets means more man hour working on the car, more weight and more risk of failure.

Instead, I only use inline fuel filter...., which i can see the benefit : 1. extra safety for what goes in into my engine, and 2. few seconds of extra run time ( or keep the engine still running when the car is upside down, especially in off road racing scene ).

@Roelof

Do you think (or ran a test) if it makes a difference if we run the old school pressure chamber or the new school Novarossi made exhaus gas cooler?

Thanks for your feedback,

Stefan

We still have to do a test with and without cooler to see how much temperature the fuel inside the tank has.

So far I have experienced is that there is less need to finetune the engine on a day. I also must say that my cooler maybe works better due the placing lower in the chassis and the more forced cooling by the design.

Very clever design! It also seconds as a "low center of gravity add on weight" if your car is lighter then 2500 gramms

Thanks for your feedback. Looking forward to hearing about your test results...

question

Can any body tell me if the new 353 09 conrod, will fit the 353 tuned 08 engine.??????

As far as I know it wont fit coz crankshaft on '09 have bigger crank pin and conrod on '09 have more meat on brass.
But I could be wrong.

roadracer43 05-05-2009 09:36 AM

I have almost a gallon on my novarossi b2000 bf.21 limited edition in my 8ight 2.0. What Im wanting to know is what is a good heat range to keep this engine running at ? I have read somewhere between 230-270. Is this correct ? I know not to tune to temp. and keep plenty of smoke coming from exhaust but kinda wanted a good estimate. I know different engines have different ranges. Any and all help will be used.

No it won't, the 09 is the same as the Plus 12's, the 08 is different.
