I've seen the STS running as fast as any Nova based/ RB / JP out there (that's here in Puerto Rico, 3port sedan the Standard, 5 port Outlaw).... I'm not spending more money than I have to to keep up. They are
Great engine, can't wait to get another one.

Couple of questions for the STS crew:
1. What plug works best in the STS RS3 non turbo motor?
2. What are the factory settings for the carb?
3. What is the performance of the RS3 compared to the D5?
I ask these questions because I am using a McKoy MC59 (hot) plug now. It is the only plug I've found to work well but it is short lived. As well, I am having trouble keeping the motor lit durring fuel stops without blipping the throtle (which sprays fuel all over the car and doesn't allow for a full or quick fill) I don't want to open the idle up too much because that throws off the needle settings. The motor is running between 210 and 240 deg.s and the temp outside has been in the 70F range or 20C. I am over 1000ft above sea level. The motor is one season old and I am not running any head shims and Sidewinder 30%. Any help would be appreciated.

1) dino said that the ideal plug is a nova #5
2) I think top - 5 out /low - 4 out
hope that helped

for me, I would use 0.5mm head shim + 30% fuel + cold plug (hard to tune the idle lo, but performance is very good.).
0.4mm head shim + 25% fuel + medium plug (both idling and performance are good)
0.4mm head shim + 20% fuel + hot plug (very good idling. good for break-in if you can't find 16% fuel.)
You can always alter the head shim and plug to get best idling and performance.
I like to set my bottom end abit rich. So that I can lean out the top abit more, but still have better cooling when I let go the throttle. This is a good setting for small tracks, but not for a big track with very long straightaway.
2. bballer is right in the carb settings.
3. D5 has better performance than RS3.
I have two RS3, one modified D3, and one modified D5.
The D5 has the best performace among these four.
For me, the performance of RS3 is like modified MR12. I have leaned out the RS3 to 280F, it can keep up with RS12TS3. But it all depends on how you setup your car, and how you drive it, too.

Well, since im a newbie to nitro engines, i have a few more questions regarding my rs3. I have used about 1/3 - 1/2 of my gallon of 20% byron fuel, and my engine seems really close to being broken in. With my plug out, there is still a slight pinch, but i was under the impression that i would have to use much more fuel to get this close to completing the break in. (No pinch, right )
Also, my piston is supposed to be slightly worn where it touched the top part of the sleeve to provide a pinch, right?
Lastly, i have heard that some manufacturers assume 1 turn is a 1/2 of a full revolution. this isn't true with sts engines, right?
I am sure i did everything right in break in, i never leaned it out until the right time, and even then i think i am too rich. ( I'm a perfectionist ) But im wondering if this could be a problem with the engine itself? I have heard a few rs3 owners say their compression was gone after 1/2 a gallon, and they had defective engines. Again, sorry for the long post, but im just want to make sure everything is cool

When fully broken in... with the plug out... and the motor cold... you will feel a very "slight" pinch at TDC... not much at all. When turning on the high speed needle go in about 1/16 increments or if you have trouble picturing 1/16 Make believe the needle is a clock and adj 1 hour at a time
Yes, during breakin the piston fits itself to the sleeve... so you will see a small wear band on the piston... this is normal.
1/3 to 1/2 gallon sounds more than enough... I generally only go through about 1/4 gallon then I lean it out and go racing
