ok, will the bottom be richer than stock setting? (in general...)

what's the %nitro that the IDM comes shimmed for?
The engine comes set for 16% so 20 is ok as well. The settings will be a bit leaner then the stock settings for the bottom end. They all come pretty rich from the factory.

ok great...maybe it's time to give picco evo3 based a chance...
my previous picco evo2 based didn't live up to my expectations.

You should not have a problem with the evo2 it is quite fast by itself. The evo3 is a bit better but they are both fast engines. If you are having a problem with the engine and it is a IDM then please PM me and we can get the solution to the problem.

dont worry about it xspower, it's not a IDM luckily...

anyway just to share: my old engine developed conrod failure at about 1 gallon mark (was still running at stock settings) and then crankshaft failure (about half gallon maybe) after new conrod fitted...

Both the Evo 2 and Evo 3 con rods should be replaced every gallon of fuel burned. I have not heard of crankshaft failures, but as I said replace the rod every gallon.

btw, any ways to tell if the rod is nearing it's end of life?

also...what should be the amount of shims if running 25%nitro?

Replace it just before it will snap.....

Some people look at a certain amount of play on the bushings, but this is not always the best thing to do...
I've tried to see how far the conrod could go in my oldest Mega/Picco .21 DSII engines, and after the 10 liter mark (2.5 gallons) it was still going strong, but I replaced it.
The conrod still had normal play on the bushings, comparable with the new one which I put in.
Most of the time it is not the play, but the stress in the material of the conrod which it had been under, that makes it break. And you can not measure this.... (unless you have an ultrasonic measure device offcourse... )

so...stock is how many mm of shims?
to use 25%, add 0.1mm or 0.2mm shim extra?

You are not running the IDM correct. I am not sure what your stock setting should be if I can recall it has been a while for me with the .12 but I think that the evo2 was either .3 or .4mm 2 .2mm or 1 .2 and 1 .1 mm shim. If you are running 20% you should be ok without adding a shim. And 1 gallon change the rod. The engine spins up to around 40k rods stretch and fatigue and like M7H said if you do not have a way to check the metal replace it.

Rowell:

I assume you are looking for a sedan engine. You want the Evo 3 version (black cylinder head). I do not see it listed on the Kamikaze website. You can send an email to [email protected]

You can also call brother Jerry. His number is on the website www.teamxspower.com He can tell you where to get the engines.

Default 2nd gear ratio

hi,
just want to check some recommandations/references:

for straights of about 60-70m; what'll be the best 2nd gear ratio to use for the IDM .12? i've heard that the IDM has very good torque and best is to gear it up; but how much?

currently i'm using 2nd gear of 4.80...

I use 4.78 that is the tallest gear in my car, but I am sure if I could install a taller pinion that won't be a problem for the engine and it will still scream in a 60m straight.. They measured top speed and my car hit 98km/h with this gearing
