Thanks in advance guys.

Boinker.

Pull the backplate and inspect the rod for excessive play.

Same goes for bearings. Ensure the front seal is good and not torn/leaking (enging wouldn't be running well if it was).

I've seen engines go 11-12 gallons, untouched on Byrons with the stock rod/bearings. Just a matter of how hard you are on them and how clean you keep the air filter and prevent dirt intrusion.

Change your bearings, maybe change your rod if you're feeling like being extra safe.

boinker - if the engine feels smooth when rotating the crank , still has a fair amount of compression , doesnt flame out , makes power that you like and holds a tune ........ keep taking care of it and you should get a few more gallons before rebuild/resize , lmk if you wanna be pre-emptive and do some maintenance on the engine for safety sake

The only real thing that I need to resolve is a slight outward leak at the Carburator Pinch Bolt on the nut side. It just needs a little sealant and that will take care of it. The compression is still good but dwindling a little bit. Can't feel any rode slap so Im sure the rod is ok if not in good condition. Not that its anything to fuss about as the thing holds a tune just fine and has a nice consistent idle. Not that I do not trust the engine its just the simple fact is I have never owned an engine before and not Taken it apart at least once every few gallons... The X3 is a special engine... that is for sure.

Thank a bunch for the ring back guys. Ill pull the back plate off it (for the first time) and do a little inspection.

Also, If I do decide to rebuild the engine do I have the right part here?? This is assuming I have the X3L and the piston sleeve and rod are the same.

Well here is hoping it will last me through the end of this year. I just had to turn up the idle speed a little last weekend so Im just going to hope it lasts until i get a new one. Well i say that but i just put Different pipe on it so Im still working on the tune that i ran out of time to do. I have just over 4 gallons through that motor right now and believe me for what i am getting Im happy with how it performs to the day. And the 2096 pipe is awesome with a 41021. ;)

Just one question. Should i expect any change from the p/s being resized rather then replaced. I have done it before through another vender and did not get a acceptable result from it. Help me ot here Houston. I don't know what to think about it.

What up Monty. My Extreme X7 did awesome for me all year and this past weekend. Got TQ and 1st in truggy. Also the overall win for RC Pro North Open class.

And in buggy, the stock BTT from you was awesome as well. Also TQ and win this weekend AND overall 1st place overall for the North Division. It took a while to find the right setup with the BTT but it is running fantastic.

Here is Jmac and I in 1st and 2nd. He left his wheels on. LOL.

I ain't no Houston,

But per his reccomendation, I had Ray do up my old 5K P&S. I'm glad I did. I got 3 5 minute heats cycles, 3 10 minute heats cycles, and 3 30 minute heats cycles on it and it's still tight. Not fully broke in, but ran in enough to put a decent race tune on her. It's my back up mill, so I can live with it not being fully race ready. I don't know what all Ray does, but truth be told, I don't really want to. All I know is that the resize was more than worth the 25 bucks to have it done. Saved me a lot of coin for a new P&S set, plus rod.

As long as the crank pin is good (Houston knows the exact measurements) and the rod is good or new, you'll be a happy camper. Best 25 bones I've spent in this hobby in a long time

Thanks guys. Soon as Nitro finals in Houston is over, end of October, I'll send the X7 in for inspection. Two seasons now and I think 7 gallons. Running like a top. I replaced front bearing the 2nd time this past weekend. It will become a back-up probably. Time for a fresh one for the next seasons.

houston 09-27-2012 08:05 PM
